Short Description
Problem
Last updated in November 2019.
When installing or repairing JAWS® 2020 (or earlier versions) from its DVD, all the necessary installation files are included in the setup folder. When installing or repairing JAWS from a downloaded executable file from the Freedom Scientific downloads page, the files not already embedded in the executable are downloaded from the internet, as needed, during the setup process.
There is a setup command-line option, /layout, which will start a layout process that creates a complete offline installation folder. It creates the setup package executable and downloads all the embedded files needed and places them into one folder. This allows users to perform offline installs or repairs by running the setup package executable from within the same folder as the downloaded installer files.
While running this copy of the setup package executable, however, an unexpected failure will occur. The following error message will appear during the setup:
“An unexpected error has occurred. Please restart your computer and run the setup again. If the error continues to occur, contact technical support. Code: 80070001”
Solution
The setup package executable should be deleted from the offline folder created in the layout process and replaced with the original downloaded executable that was used with the /layout command.
Here is an example of steps to perform the JAWS 2020 layout process and to replace the setup executable in order to avoid the installation error.
Downloading JAWS 2020 and preparing for the layout process:
- Download the latest appropriate JAWS 2020 executable file from the Freedom Scientific download page:
- Decide the name and location of an offline installation folder. The layout process below will automatically create this folder and place the necessary files in it.
Using the Run command to perform the layout process:
- Press the WINDOWS key, type Run and press ENTER.
- Select the Browse button.
- Select the JAWS 2020 exe file you just downloaded and then select Open, which will get you back to the Run dialog.
- At the end of the run command, type a space, then the /layout command and the path to the new offline installation folder you want it to create.
- Here is an example of what it might look like:
“C:\Users\User Name\Downloads\J2020.1910.54enu-x64.exe” /layout “C:\JAWS 2020 Offline Install”
- Select OK to enter the layout process.
- Select the Layout button to complete the layout process.
Replacing the new “JAWS setup package” file with the original downloaded exe:
- Delete the “JAWS setup package” file located in your new folder, (in this case, C:\JAWS 2020 Offline Install).
- Copy the original downloaded exe (in this case, C:\Users\User Name\Downloads\J2020.1910.54enu-x64.exe).
- Paste this file into your new folder (in this case, C:\JAWS 2020 Offline Install).
You can now copy this entire folder to a computer (in this case, make sure OS is 64-bit) and run the pasted setup exe file to install JAWS 2020, no internet access required.
