Short Description
Problem
Remote desktop software such as Remote Desktop Windows 10, VMWare, and Citrix, allow access to a different desktop, typically located on a server at another physical location. Access through this type of software allows you to work from another machine’s desktop as if it were local.
For JAWS, Fusion, or ZoomText users, we still want to use our accessibility software while in this remote desktop environment. In order to work properly, your Freedom Scientific accessibility software should be installed and running on the server as well as the local machine. But your software must be properly licensed to do this.
If you attempt to retrieve a license code for the remote machine within a remote desktop session, you will get an error validating the license code.
While trying to launch your Freedom Scientific software, you may get either or both of the following messages:
“Your local [Freedom Scientific product] is not authorized to connect with [your Freedom Scientific product] on a server.”
“This application is not authorized to run in a terminal services session.”
Solution
Here are some options for using your Freedom Scientific software in a remote desktop environment.
To run your Freedom Scientific software on both the local and remote machines:
- Install your Freedom Scientific software on both machines.
- Make sure you have a license that includes the Remote Desktop/Citrix® Support add-on feature. This can be purchased separately for any license type.
- Activate with your license code on the local machine. You do not need to activate on the remote machine as it will use the license from the local machine.
- From the local machine, you can launch your Freedom Scientific software, open the remote desktop session, then launch your Freedom Scientific software on the remote machine for maximum performance.
To run your Freedom Scientific software only on the remote machine:
- Ensure there is a license server with licenses that include the Remote Desktop/Citrix Support add-on feature. This license server must be in the same subnet as the remote machine.
- Install your Freedom Scientific software on the remote machine. You may need to contact your Network Administrator for assistance configuring the software to acquire a license from the license server.
- Connect from your local machine and launch the Freedom Scientific software located on the remote machine. The remote machine will use a license provided by the network license server.
NOTE: The performance of your Freedom Scientific software will be much better in the first scenario, where it is running on both the local and remote machines.
Please call Freedom Scientific at 1-800-444-4443 to discuss these or any other options.
