What Are Styles?

A style is a collection of formatting characteristics you can apply to paragraphs, headings, and lists in a Microsoft Word document. Styles look professional and add consistency to your document. Styles also save you time formatting your document.

Built-in styles are offered in Word’s templates, or you can customize styles to create your own look. If you need a business brochure, for example, you can search Word’s online templates to find the one that best matches your needs. Once you apply the template, you can update the styles to personalize the brochure and match your creative concept.

What We’ll Cover

  • Apply Word’s built-in styles
  • Change the “Normal” style to fit your preferences
