02 JAWS Installation This module is entitled JAWS for Windows Installation. When you insert the JAWS 4.5 CD into your CD ROM drive, the installation starts automatically. That is, if you have autorun feature enabled in your Windows O/S. That's the typical way that Windows is set up when it is installed. What will happen is that JAWS will come up speaking to you and you'll have a talking install provided you are using a sound card and have some speakers or headset. If for some reason the CD does not automatically start, press WINDOWS KEY+R to open your run dialog and type in the path to the CD drive (usually D:\ or E:\) and the following file name: Setup You don't need to uninstall your previous versions of JAWS because the new versions of JAWS always install in a different subdirectory. For example, this version JAWS 4.5 will install in a folder called C:\JAWS451. I should note that the minimum requirements for JAWS are 133 MHz Pentium processor, 32 MB of available RAM space required (64 MB required for Windows 2000 Professional). About 50 MB of available hard disk space required for the installation. The JAWS program itself will take up about 25 MB of disk space. Now I am installing this for Windows XP. If you are authorized for Windows 98 and Windows NT JAWS will automatically detect the operating system and the authorization that you have and will install the appropriate files in the appropriate places. What I am going to do now is insert the CD and we'll start the installation. JAWS for Windows Dialog. Please make sure that all applications including screen readers and magnification programs are shut down before continuing... [music] The first Setup dialog welcomes you to setup. There are several buttons on this dialogl Press INSERT+NUM PAD 5 to repeat the current button, then cycle through all and back to the first one. JAWS for Windows Network Setup ... To begin installation press ENTER. Here we landed on the next button. At this point simply press ENTER and we will go on to another screen. License agreement. You must agree to the Freedom Scientific agreement shown in the edit box below. Once you have read the agreement select yes to continue with the installation. If you choose no you will exit setup. Use the arrow keys to navigate the license agreement. Edit. We've landed in an edit field that has the license agreement there. The default button in this dialog box is the yes button so if you press ENTER here you would go on. If you would like to read the license agreement you can simply do a Say All command with JAWS, which is INSERT+DOWN ARROW. I'll do that now and then after a few lines I'll pause it by pressing the CONTROL key for silence, then I'll press ENTER to move on with the install. License Agreement Freedom Scientific End User License Agreement Freedom Scientific BLV Group, LLC provides you with the software program included in the package accompanying this agreement (the program) and licenses you to use this program. The license granted to you is nonexclusive... There I stopped the speech and you can go back and read through this dialog a word at a time, a line at a time, however you wish with JAWS. I'm going to go ahead now and press the ENTER key to activate the yes button. ENTER. JAWS 4.5 dialog, type of installation select Automatic, Guided or Advanced. For more information on the selected information type press INSERT+F1. Automatic radio button checked, one of three. We heard that we had three radio buttons here and that we are on item one of three Automatic install. I'm going to press INSERT+F1 to get JAWS help right now. The third Setup dialog lists Install Options. There are three installation options for JAWS Setup: Will install JAWS for Windows with Eloquence software speech synthesizer. If you wish to install for other synthesizers or for refreshable Braille displays you must choose Guided or Advanced installation. So if you wish to choose to add a Braille display, a notetaker with Braille display added to it, or a hardware synthesizer, something along those lines you need to choose either the Guided or Advanced install. I am going to go through the Guided install and show it to you, but first I'll talk a little bit about the Automatic install. If you don't have hardware synthesizers or Braille displays hooked up, the Automatic install is a great way to do it. It is very easy, very quick and you don't have to answer a lot of questions. You only have to press the ENTER key about 4 or 5 times, and you’re done. JAWS gets installed in the JAWS451 directory without any changes. It installs all the languages so you don't have to worry about anything. It is a quick, easy install for someone doing training or for a person using JAWS without hardware synthesizers or Braille displays. So unless you have to add a Braille display or other device, I would recommend the Automatic install. If you do decide to do an Automatic install and then later decide to add a Braille display you can go through and choose Installation Maintenance from the JAWS submenu in the Start Menu, Programs group. For now, I'm going to press DOWN ARROW to select the Guided install. Guided Install radio button checked, two of three. And I'll press INSERT+F1 here. Provides dialogs which step you through a custom installation similar to our Custom installation. And I'll go ahead and press ENTER now. JAWS 4.5 dialog. Choose destination location where setup will install files. Setup will install JAWS in the following folder. Press ENTER to continue or press ALT+R to browse for a different folder location. C:\JAWS451 next button. Note, the destination folder is going to be C:\JAWS451. There is a browse button. If you TAB through the next button and I'll do that now. TAB Cancel button. And again. TAB back button. And again. TAB Destination folder Browse button. So you do have the ability here to actually choose a different folder. Another thing worth mentioning is if we do come out with updates to JAWS the destination folder may change, so if you are listening to this and there is a later version of JAWS out, this particular destination folder could change. Now, I'm just going to press TAB to go to the next button TAB Next button. And I am going to press SPACEBAR to activate that and move on with the install. JAWS 4.5 install dialog. Select synthesizer components. Eloquence is automatically installed. For more information on the selected component press INSERT+F1. Tree View AccentPC checkbox not checked. X of xxxx. We heard we are in a Tree View and we are on AccentPC. You can up and down arrow through the tree view and press SPACEBAR to check the different synthesizers that you'd like to install. One important note here is that you can go ahead and install as many synthesizers as you want. But, if you don't actually have those synthesizers installed on your machine, those choices will not work in JAWS. It is a two step process in essence. First you can go into JAWS here and install for the synthesizer you want and then later you can install your synthesizers and or the software that come with them. Or, you can do it in the reverse order. You could first install your synthesizers and then and check to make sure they are working and then when you come into the JAWS 4.5 install and you can choose those synthesizers at that time. So it's either way. Remember, just because you select a synthesizer here it does not mean you have the synthesizer. And to make it work you have to have the synthesizer whether it's hardware or whether it is software. I'm going to press the letter D. D Dectalk Access 32 Software not checked. X of xxxx. And I'm going to press the SPACEBAR to check this. Dectalk Access 32 Software checked. X of xxxx. I'm going to press D again. D Dectalk Express not checked. X of xxxx. By doing this I'll be able to show you how we install a hardware synthesizer. Dectalk Express checked. X of xxxx. So once you've gone through and checked off the synthesizers that you plan to install you can press the TAB key... TAB Next Button. You land on the next button so we will press ENTER here. ENTER. If the speech synthesizer you want is not in the list TAB to the back button and press ENTER to return to the previous screen where you can select the one you want. Primary device combo box. Eloquence for JAWS. X of xxxx. I'm going to leave the primary synthesizer set to Eloquence for JAWS because I don't really have Dectalk Access 32 installed at this time. Nor do I have the Dectalk Express installed. But I am going to go ahead and check them assuming I will go back and do the installs for Dectalk Access 32 software synthesizer and the Dectalk Express later so that they will work when I choose them. The default button here is the next button. I'll go ahead and press ENTER here. ENTER. JAWS 4.5 install dialog. Additional Eloquence languages. All JAWS Eloquence languages will be installed with American English as the default. Press the SPACEBAR to deselect the synthesizer languages you choose not to install. Tree one Tree View. X of xxxx French Checked. X of xxxx. German Checked. X of xxxx. Just to give you an idea. You can explore this list and decide to uncheck something if you wish, but by default all of the languages are installed and it's nice to have that. I'll now press the ENTER key to activate the next dialog. ENTER. JAWS 4.5 install dialog. Set options for the Dectalk Express speech synthesizer. Port information. Select the port combo box. X of xxxx. One of the new things here in JAWS is the installation maintenance in 4.5 if I select Comm port 1, which is highlighted here, and find out later that it is actually Comm port 2 that Dectalk is installed on I can go to installation maintenance and change that. I don't have to worry about getting out my CD and changing it again through a new install. I am assuming for the moment that I would install my Dectalk Express on my Comm port 1. Now I'll press ENTER for the next button. ENTER. JAWS 4.5 install dialog. Select Braille components. For more information on selected components press INSERT+F1. Tree one, tree view. Braille Lite M20 Millennium Edition checkbox not checked. X of xxxx. We land in another tree view to install Braille devices. JAWS 4.5 install dialog Set Option for the Type Lite Braille Display. Select your output port. Port information. Select the output port combo box. Comm 1. X of xxxx. If you would like to change the folder in the Start Menu where JAWS will appear, type in the name or select the existing folder from the list below. By default JAWS will be installed in the JAWS451 program folder. Edit. Accessories. We heard two things bits of information there at the end. Program folder JAWS 4.5 and then we heard the word Accessories. That's because there is a list view below the field where JAWS 4.5 is highlighted and the first item in that list view Accessories under existing folders is also highlighted. By default, JAWS reads highlighted text. So this is not going to install into the Accessories folder. If you wanted to you could up and down arrow through the list to hear what other folders are available. We are not going to do that now so I am going to press ENTER to move on to the next dialog. ENTER. JAWS 4.5 install dialog. Start copying files. Review the list below before you begin copying files. If you want to change and setting TAB to the Back button and press ENTER.
