"It's very hard to put into words just how much the release of JAWS Tandem has improved my work and the ways I am able to help people. I have operated the Chicago Lighthouse's Adaptive Technology Help Desk for over three years now. In that time, I have handled over 2,200 requests for help with numerous computer and technology issues from individuals with visual impairments in 49 states, six Canadian provinces, China, South Africa and New Zealand. I have assisted individuals with everything from installing software to communicating with their matches on eHarmony.com, and on and on.
By far, the vast majority of those who have come to me for help use JAWS for Windows screen reading software. As I have assisted these individuals, I have felt that there are many times when it would be much more efficient for me to simply be able to access their computer remotely and just do whatever I was trying to show them. I have watched with increasing frustration as my colleagues use tools like Remote Assistant to assist individuals, often saying to them, I wish there was some way I could do that like you do.
JAWS Tandem has truly leveled the playing field for technical support professionals like me who are blind. Since its release, I have had six clients - a couple on multiple occasions - call me for help and ask that we go on JAWS Tandem to handle whatever they are requesting help with. These are people in Texas, California, Tennessee, Missouri and Illinois. I believe this has helped me to serve these clients more efficiently and they are happy with the service I have provided to them which is the most important thing.
I feel JAWS Tandem will be much more than a way to remotely solve problems, though. Eventually, I would like to do more one on one training with clients; JAWS Tandem will allow me to work with them without my having to travel to their location. As a person who is blind, this means I won't have to deal with the time and frustrations of navigating public transportation to get to their location, if I could use it at all to get there.
I have told many and believe it to be true that JAWS Tandem has taken the hand that was partially behind my back at the Help Desk and pulled it back in front of me. I cannot thank Freedom Scientific enough for developing this tool which has made doing my job so much easier and made me truly equal with my sighted colleagues.

"JAWS Tandem is a breakthrough feature in the AT industry! When I first used it, I could see the huge potential it could offer clients with sorting out a problem or users wishing to help other users. But the big winner I find with this feature is training!
You could train the user in using a certain program from the most basic to the most advanced topics. You can even script an application for the user, without having to travel long distances, saving costs to you and the client.
I see this feature only getting better. As JAWS grows, let Tandem grow with it!"

"A friend of mine recently asked if I could help him with a computer problem, and I told him no problem. Typically, I take him through the steps of configuring whatever he is working on through the phone. This time (during the beta testing of JAWS 10), I asked him to download the public beta version of JAWS.
"... When I connected to his computer and he heard JAWS talking (or Eloquence, that is), he was truly impressed. He said that I could use this to help many customers over the phone. He understood the use for the tool right away. He said that he had a contract ... to do remote support, and he had a potential use for this technology with some of his clients. So, I said, 'Bring it on!'
"Thus far, I have impressed three people, two of whom are potential employers and one who has a potential to make me very busy with family computer work. The fact is that the Tandem story is being developed as we speak, and it is causing people to raise their eyebrows. This is truly an innovative set of technologies, and Freedom Scientific is on the forefront and well ahead of the curve."

"I've found Tandem to be immensely useful for allowing one user to truly see what is going on with another's computer from that computer's perspective. The implications are tremendous both for Freedom Scientific tech support and for friends who want to help friends. The ability to experience a problem remotely without requesting that a machine be sent in is just one more feature which puts JAWS light-years ahead of the competition."
