Thank you for purchasing the 2001 firmware for your Freedom Scientific Legacy notetakers. This year's update will make your unit an even better data management tool. New features in the 2001 Update: *Improved Clipboard - Over the years, the clipboard has been the catch all for many storage tasks. Because many told us they wanted to use the clipboard for moving and storing data, we've put the clipboard back under your control. Now, the only time information goes to the clipboard is if you move or delete information to or from your file. The Copy Command (Shift-Prntscrn) lets you copy information to the clipboard. Experienced users of our notetakers will remember that after executing the copy command, you have the option of either copying information to the clipboard, which deletes the current contents, or appending information to the clipboard, which just adds the information to what is all ready on the clipboard. The Delete Command (del) posts the deletion to the clipboard. To undo a deletion, just paste the clipboard contents back into your file. *Datebook - The Datebook has two new options under check appointments (the hot key in the Status Menu is J). **Check appointments once a day - (the hot key in the Options Menu is A) **Check appointments within the hour - (the hot key in the Options Menu is H) With the first option, the first time you turn on your unit you are alerted of an appointment for that current day. With the second option, the unit alerts you of an appointment within the hour. To use this feature, enter the time in the event text using the hh:mm format. Be sure to use the colon between the hour and minutes and use the grade of Braille your unit is set to. It is not necessary to add an A to the appointment if it occurs in the A.M. If the appointment is in the P.M., you can either enter the time in military/European format (13:30) or you can add a P to the end of the time in American format. *Key Echo Words - A new feature added to the Speech Parameters Menu is Word Echo. With Word Echo, each word you type is echoed after pressing the spacebar. You do not need to turn interactive on to use this feature. *Stopwatch - The new "Speak Interval Time" function is helpful with timing tasks such as taking your pulse, timing a recording, or cooking a meal. To use this function, enter the Stopwatch (F9, W). To set the interval, press I or Alt-I. The command I verbalizes the intervals. The command Alt-I notifies you of the time interval with a click. When you use either of these commands, you are prompted to set an interval time in seconds. Enter 10 and the notetaker announces the time every 10 seconds, 10, 20, 30 etc. To toggle between clicking and speaking interval time, press a T. Use an S to stop speaking the intervals, but leave the timer running. In addition to these new features, several minor fixes have been made to the firmware that will give you better speech in the calculator and a more reliable flash operation. New external applications that come with this update: *Qback.bns - Enhanced Backup Program that lets you quickly backup files to a PC using the serial port and the Y-modem. *Mb Program - A new external program used for marking and moving blocks of text. *Games - Interested in playing games? Try these classics: Chess, Black Jack, Tic Tac Toe, or Guess a Number. See the documentation on the update disk for instructions on these external programs. **If you have technical questions call 561-223-6443 or email notetakers@freedomscientific.com
