What is FaceToFace?

FaceToFace™ is a pocket PC application that allows a deaf-blind PAC Mate user to communicate, by way of Bluetooth® wireless technology, with other individuals using a PAC Mate™ or HP™ iPAQ™ pocket PC.

About this Document

This document describes how to install, configure, and use the FaceToFace application on both the iPAQ and PAC Mate. For initial product installation and configuration on an iPAQ, assistance from a sighted individual is required.

FaceToFace Installation Overview

Note: For initial product installation and configuration on an iPAQ, assistance from a sighted individual is required. For detailed FaceToFace installation procedures, refer to the FaceToFace User’s Guide, Part Number 440287-001.

Step 1 requires that you connect to the PMActivate.com Web page and obtain an Authorization code. You will need the confirmation code that appears on your FaceToFace Activation certificate to complete this task.

Step 2 requires that you configure various iPAQ Bluetooth settings, install the FaceToFace software onto the iPAQ using an ActiveSync connection between the iPAQ and computer, and start and authorize the FaceToFace application. The FaceToFace application is available on the FaceToFace Program and Documentation CD.

Step 3 requires that you install the Socket Communications Bluetooth software driver, which is supplied on the FaceToFace Program and Documentation CD, and then configure Bluetooth for the PAC Mate.

Step 4 requires that you install and then authorize FaceToFace on the PAC Mate.

Accessing Online Help

Online help is available for the FaceToFace application. To access the help file, do the following:

1. Start the FaceToFace application.
2. Press the Windows key to open the Start menu, and then choose Help.
   The FaceToFace online help appears.

Requirements

To use this product, you need the following items in addition to those that are included with your purchase of FaceToFace:

• Personal computer with Microsoft Windows and Microsoft ActiveSync
• PAC Mate BX or QX version 2.5 or later
• 20 or 40 cell PAC Mate portable braille display (optional)
• HP 2110 Series, 2200 Series, or greater iPAQ pocket PC with cradle or USB cable
• Socket Communications Bluetooth CompactFlash® card (BL4508-309 or equivalent)

Document Conventions

This guide observes the following conventions:

• Menu names, command names, and dialog box options appear in bold text.
• Keystroke commands that you press appear in bold text.
• The command syntax for the PAC Mate QX appears first, followed in parentheses by the version of the same command for the BX.
  
  For example, ESC (F1) is the keystroke to close an open dialog on the PAC Mate. In this example, ESC is the PAC Mate QX keystroke, and F1 is the PAC Mate BX keystroke.
