Included
OpenBook 7.0 includes
the RealSpeak text-to-speech synthesizer, which provides realistic, human-sounding
speech. Now you can choose between the natural voice of RealSpeak and
the responsive voice provided by ViaVoice, according to your preferences.
Updated Optical Character
Recognition (OCR)
All OCR engines included
with OpenBook have been updated to provide the best text conversion and
page recognition available. Now you can choose between OmniPage 12, Recognita
12, or FineReader 6.02 to recognize graphics-based text.
Improved Table Reading
OpenBook 7.0 leaves
tables in row order when gridlines are detected regardless of whether
the scanning is set to recognize columns. This allows you to easily understand
the table layout, read through the contents, and follow the natural flow
intended by the table author.
Search and Read Books
from the Internet
Use OpenBook to search
and download books from BookShare.org, Baen Free Library, and Project
Gutenberg. Now you can easily access public domain books and, with a subscription
to Bookshare.org, thousands of copyrighted books as well. A free 30-day
trail membership for Bookshare.org is included with your OpenBook purchase.
Send and Receive
Faxes
Now you can use OpenBook
to send and receive faxes through your modem. You can fax just the text
of a document or the original version. You can also receive and read faxes
in OpenBook. There is no longer any need for a special fax scanning mode,
since you can simply open the fax file and OpenBook will automatically
recognize the text.
Photocopy Feature
Use your scanner and
printer to create one or more exact copies of a document right at your
desk. OpenBook makes photocopying with your scanner fast and simple -
just scan the page you want to copy and OpenBook sends it directly to
your printer. There is no need to create new OpenBook documents or save
the file on your computer.
Launch Manager
The new Launch Manager
allows you to customize OpenBook’s launchable applications. Use
this feature to create OpenBook commands that export your documents to
other applications, such as MS Word or Notepad, or provide quick access
to your most commonly used applications. The Launch Manager also allows
you to quickly change the applications in your Launch menu, as well as
their export settings, command line parameters, and more.
Improved Graphics
Filtering
Graphics that encroach
into columns of text are now filtered when you instruct OpenBook to recognize
columns. This eliminates meaningless text that may appear in the recognized
document.
Expanded Scan Preview
Area
The scan preview area
has been expanded, allowing you to identify both the sender and addressee
on envelopes.
New Recognize Columns
Shortcut
You can now press
CTRL+SHIFT+Z to enable or disable the recognize columns
scanning option. This allows you to quickly customize your scanning preferences
according to the document you want to scan.
Specify the Location
of Batch Images
In OpenBook 7.0, you
can specify the folder where you want to store scanned images during a
batch scan.
Customize How OpenBook
Reads Headers and Footers
OpenBook now provides
an option to specify whether headers and footers are spoken when you use
the Say All command.
