Welcome to the JAWS for Windows 5.10, August 2004 English Release.This downloadable JAWS 5.10 version still uses the existing Quella Authorization Scheme. It is intended for use by all previously authorized JAWS 5.x customers who may be currently using the 5.00.621 release from Fall of 2003 or the 5.00.844 Update from March 2004. A Dongle version is also available at this time for those currently using 5.x versions with dongles. This free downloadable update for 5.x customers is not considered an SMA upgrade. If you wish to recieve this update on CD, please contact your local authorized Dealer or Freedom Scientific Sales to order the CD at a nominal fee to cover shipping and handling. JAWS 5.10 will install to its own Folder (C:\JAWS510), and will not interfere with earlier versions of JAWS you may have installed and running on your computer. This version, and previous versions of JAWS 5.x and 4.51, have all been tested and are working with the new Windows XP Service Pack 2; it is not necessary to update to 5.10 for Service Pack 2. We have loaded this update with many features and enhancements and recommend that all customers who are eligible read the What's New and upgrade to 5.10 soon. The JAWS Merge Utility
has returned in this 5.10 version. You can only merge from previously
installed versions of 5.0; the Merge Utility will not pull settings or
files from versions 4.51 or earlier. If you have script files you have
created and been using in JAWS versions prior to 5.x, you will need to
recompile them to use them in JAWS 5.10. JAWS 5.10 is a DCM compatible release and you should consult other manufacturers of Screen Readers or Magnification Products regarding their DCM status before installing on the same machines that run Windows NT 4.0/2000/XP specifically. The only exceptions to this would be previous versions of JAWS for Windows and Connect Outloud as well as updated versions of MAGic 8.02 or MAGic 9.0, the current shipping version. Note that this version does not include the support for Citrix, Terminal Services, or Remote Desktop. Details regarding using these options will follow during the next few weeks.
