JAWS for Windows 4.5
Public Beta Fixes
JAWS Interface and
Configuration
JAWS now properly
honors the typing echo setting when typing in the Spelling Rate Decrement
and Uppercase Increment controls found in the Global Voices Dialog.
We have changed the
Braille structured mode representation of a split button to sbtn.
We have included a
new driver for the Braille Voyager (voyager.jlb) provided by Tieman.
We have corrected
a problem where JAWS reports its version number as 0.00.00 when regional
settings are not set to English.
JAWS now correctly
processes numbers when the Number Processing radio button is set to single
digits in the Text Processing dialog within Configuration Manager.
When pressing INSERT+F1+F1
within an Application that does not have a JAWS help topic associated
with it, the Virtual Viewer can now be closed with ESC.
We have corrected
an issue with Window Class reassign where if you assigned a window to
use MSAA and then reassigned it to another class, the MSAA entry would
not be properly deleted from the MSAA Subclasses section of the configuration
settings file. This was also a problem in reverse.
We have removed the
Automatic Install installation choice from the JAWS Server installation.
Internet Explorer
We fixed reported
problems in Windows 2000, when shutting down Internet Explorer if you
were on a page containing Flash content.
We fixed a problem that occurred when pressing F to move to form fields
on the Web page: www.delta.com
We fixed a reported
problem of potential crashes occurring on Flash enabled Web sites such
as www.redrooster.com.au
with JAWS if you move to the point where you heard "voiceover"
and then close the browser.
We fixed the problem where there were reading issues with the Flash 5
-
www.atlantis.com
Web site. This should be much better now.
We fixed the problem where turning off the page refresh and ActiveX refresh
filters from the configuration manager did not always turn off the refreshes
in the Virtual Buffer of JAWS where the Virtual Cursor is reading the
content. Users should be aware that visually, the page refreshes still
occur on screen even if JAWS is set to stop the
refresh. This is only related to the Virtual Buffer.
We fixed the reported problem where in Internet Explorer or in JAWS Help,
if you turned off "indicate headings" in the INSERT+V verbosity
dialog and then returned to the dialog afterward, indicate headings would
revert to on.
We fixed announcement of access keys in Internet Explorer when tabbing
if the access key is actually part of the label tag and not the element
itself. So now JAWS finds the access key when tabbing if the access key
is defined as either an
attribute of the element or an attribute of its label.
We added the Keyboard
Help message for the Internet Explorer JAWS Keystroke: SHIFT+JAWSKey+F1.
You should now hear the message as follows: "Displays basic information
on the current HTML element"
We fixed a reported problem in Internet Explorer where an anchor tag which
was not closed caused parts of pages to not read correctly. Since anchor
tags should not be nested, we are now treating them as optionally paired,
i.e. if we parse an anchor tag when the prior anchor tag hasn't been closed
then we treat the prior anchor as if it has been closed. We also fixed
GetControlType to look for exactly the same info so that if we do have
a destination anchor which isn't closed we still see its contents correctly.
See www.sba.gov for a
good example. This also fixes the same problem at www.navy.mil.
We improved the activation of the HTML onMouseOver handler (CTRL+ENTER)
by
ensuring that we move the mouse pointer away from and back to the element.
We also restore the mouse pointer to its original location if it wasn't
originally on the element. Note this is sensitive to the accuracy of Route
JAWS to Virtual PC. When this function is working correctly this ActivateOnMouseOver
function is also reliable. If
route JAWS to virtual PC doesn't work at a given time, neither will this
function. Pressing CTRL+ENTER multiple times will automatically move the
mouse pointer away and back to the element so you can trigger thehandler
again without manually having to turn on the JAWS cursor and move it away
from the element.
We fixed the problem where Flash was forcing the Navigation Quick Keys
to
remain active after leaving Internet Explorer . This was happening in
many places. An
example of this could be seen on www.tvguide.com.
This should be resolved now in all cases.* We fixed the problem where
using the table navigation keystroke
ALT+CTRL+Right Arrow at the end of a row in a table (HTML or PDF), JAWS
was reporting "beginning of row." JAWS should now report end
of row as
expected.
We added the JAWS 4.5 Navigation Quick Keys to the Type Lite Default Keymap
file. Users of the Type Lite should refer to the TSN on our Support page
of the Freedom Scientific Web site for details on implementing this.
In HTML, we fixed a problem when an anchor had its own title but the anchor
only contained images so the link was considered a graphical link. If
none of the images had any useful information, there was previously no
way of hearing the graphic's own title attribute since the graphic rendering
options were used and resulted in the SRC of the first image within the
anchor tag being used. Now, if we find that the link is a graphical link
and that the anchor has its own title attribute then if the text links
option is set to favor title we favor title of the anchor over any of
the graphical rendering options for the enclosed images. This is closer
to the 4.02 expected behavior but still gives the flexibility of the 4.5
richer graphical rendering options. In 4.02 we would always still treat
this as a text link and thus never render any of the graphical information
if it did have any.
Popular Applications
We fixed the reported
problem where exiting Hotmail back into MSN Messenger caused some crashes
in JAWS.
We fixed the AudibleManager scripts to contain improvements for better
reading and prompting in the dialog used to transfer files to the audible
device called Otis. The user now gets a Smart Help message specifying
what the dialog is for when it opens, and the prompts for hours and minutes
are read correctly.
We fixed the new AudibleManager scripts so that the missing laptop keystrokes
are now included.
We fixed the Eudora scripts so they contain labels for all mailbox graphics,
both speech and Braille, for both Eudora 4.3.2 and 5.1.1 in 8, 16, and
32 bit color depths.
MSAA support for edit fields in Lotus Notes 5.x is no longer applicable
to Lotus Notes 6.x due to IBM/Iris modifying their MSAA support. This
fix should correct the problem where prompt labels for edit fields were
not working in Lotus Notes 6. Users of Lotus Notes 6 should see the TSN
on the Freedom Scientific Technical Support Web page regarding adjusting
a jcf file to take advantage of the new MSAA items in Version 6. Currently
JAWS determines the Notes version by reading an entry in the nlnotes.jcf
file. The default setting is 5 (since Lotus Notes 6.x has not been released
yet).
We fixed the problem where in the scripts for MSN Messenger, Contact is
misspelled as Contac in the ToggleVerbosity script.* We fixed the problem
in the thesaurus of Microsoft Word 2002, where the replace with synonyms
edit combo did not seem to be working correctly. This should be much better
now.
We fixed the problem
of SpeechOff being overridden in certain circumstances within Eudora.
We also updated some names for a couple of Eudora Graphics.
We fixed the problem in Outlook spell checker where if a word was misspelled
twice without any other misspelled words in between, JAWS would not read
the second instance of the error if the user pressed ALT+C to make the
change. The ALT+I keystroke was also added for the ignore misspelling
function. If this keystroke was used, JAWS would not announce the next
instance of a word that spell check considered a misspelling. Adding these
keystrokes allows JAWS to read the misspelling and suggestion of each
occurrence without performing a say line.
In Outlook we added enhancements for the ALT+C keystroke (and others)
in the spell check dialog.
Network JAWS
We fixed the problem
where in network JAWS, the user's login name was not being displayed as
part of the title bar.
We fixed the problem
where in network JAWS, some of the changes in the
JAWS client window were being saved to other profiles.
We fixed the problem where the Network JAWS, client install was not properly
installing files needed to run Freedom Scientific Focus Braille Displays.
We fixed a problem found in the Network installation of JAWS when installed
with Braille. Structured mode output only worked if logged in as the Administrator.
This is now resolved and the Structured Mode output from JAWS should now
work in all cases.
JAVA
We fixed the problem
where pressing backspace in a JTextArea control within a JAVA Swing Application,
JAWS always says BLANK. It makes no difference whether the JTextArea control
is a Single Line or Multi Line control.
We fixed the problem where JAWS was failing to correctly read Window Titles
in JAVA Swing Applications.
We fixed the problem reported in a tree view component in a JAVA swing
application, where JAWS would not speak the currently selected item in
the tree view as you navigate if the tree view had to scroll.
We fixed the problem where JAWS failed to obtain the correct value for
the Tree View level in JAVA Swing Applications.
Other
We fixed the problem
where JAWS still thought the MAGic Key (CAPS LOCK by
default) is active even when you close MAGic 8.00.130.
We fixed the problem in Windows XP and Windows 2000 where Smooth Scrolling
was preventing certain highlighted text from reading in many lists of
dialog boxes such
as the Open File Dialog of Word XP. If there was a large list of files,
JAWS would sometimes fail to read the file when you arrow in the list
if
the list was scrolling right to left or left to right. We are now properly
disabling the SmoothScroll effect by default when JAWS is running which
solves that problem.
We fixed the problem where changing the Typing Echo setting in
Configuration Manager and then checking it in the INSERT+V verbosity dialog
would incorrectly indicate characters. Also addressed the reported problem
where once saved in Configuration Manager, the setting would not stick
if you then manually changed it in the Verbosity dialog.
We fixed problems related to certain situations where users would get
an
error dialog which says: "Foreign video driver detected." JAWS
should now
be able to properly handle these cases when updating JAWS installs in
the future.
We fixed the reported problem where you could get the HJTrack menu rather
than the JAWS menu in some cases when running JAWS from the System Tray
and you pressed INSERT+J.* We fixed several reported problems of some
settings that were not properly taking effect until JAWS was restarted.
Configuration and
settings changed in JAWS should now be taking effect when the changes
are
made without the need to restart in most cases.
We fixed the problem where Cardfile, WinPopup, and other 16 bit apps were
crashing in Windows 98 or ME if JAWS was running.
We fixed the problem with the Windows-XP volume control not speaking correctly.
We fixed a reported problem in Windows XP and Windows 2000 where speech
was lost in the Security dialogs (CTRL+ALT+DELETE) or when just logging
off. This
occurred if JAWS was set to Automatically Start JAWS and a Braille display
was being used. Note that we are still working on issues related to Logging
off
within Windows NT 4.0 when using Braille.
We fixed a problem where the JAWS installation would not speak on systems
that had regional settings for many Latin American Spanish regions such
as
Argentina, Chile, Venezuela, Columbia, Puerto Rico, etc. We also addressed
this for the Russian Region of R U M.
We fixed the problem where when toggling states of JAWS Cursor Restriction
(INSERT+R), the state was getting stuck on frame restriction in some cases.
This was a direct result of having Fixed another problem where users reported
that they could not restrict JAWS Cursor to Frames. That problem has been
solved also.
We fixed the problems with getting Alva Braille displays installed using
parallel port connections.
We fixed the problem where we were not writing all the required registry
entries for the Tieman, Voyager Braille Display.
