OpenBook
6.01 update now available with enhancements
for optimal functionality
(St. Petersburg, Florida
- January 24, 2003) - Freedom Scientific today announced the release of
OpenBook 6.01. The leading scanning and reading software for blind and
low vision users provides unmatched access to text and text imbedded in
graphics, including PDF files, and this update provides even better functionality.
Licensed 6.0 customers can contact their local dealer or contact Freedom
Scientific for a CD with this update. There is a $10 fee if the CD needs
to be mailed.
The update is also available as download.
The OpenBook 6.01
enhancements can be categorized into four main groups: language, navigation,
settings and support.
LANGUAGE
Punctuation can be set as an option to be read through ViaVoice. Improved
recognition of text printed on small font sizes. Switch between documents
of various languages, including the Cyrillic languages (such as Ukrainian,
Bulgarian and Serbian). The irrelevant dialog that used to appear after
performing notetaker operations with Active Sync or after closing an altered
untitled document has been removed.
NAVIGATION
Toggle between frames in the Document Map with the F6 key, and use the
up arrow key without any blockage.
Exact View no longer displays sideways, and there are wider fields to
assure all contained text is readable. Unwanted pauses that appeared at
the end of lines when reading with "recognized columns" turned
off have been removed.
SETTINGS
The registry is cleared of all prior ViaVoice installations, and installing
to a custom directory is a smooth process. Saving text to audio creates
an accurate recording that matches the reading voice set within OpenBook.
Imported text or saved untitled documents can be easily named.
InfoVox saves efficiently to audio, and you also can change the default
synthesizer.
SUPPORT
The Recent File list, Document Map, Template wizard, Help Systems, TripleTalk
PCI drivers and TripleTalk USB have all been improved for easier usage.
Scanning FAX files and ARK files runs error-free. Registry entries for
launchable applications such as Word match the file type string used in
the Open/Save As dialogs. You can save .DOC files without the letter "D"
appearing at the beginning of each paragraph.
