Freedom Scientific set to post public beta of JAWS® for Windows

August 14, 2003) - Freedom Scientific today announced that
a public beta version of its popular JAWS® for Windows screen reading
software will be available to download by the weekend. JAWS 5.0 is a revolutionary
breakthrough in Windows screen reading technology.
This new upgrade,
for those who purchase it, is stocked with new features and functions.
Among the many changes are key additions such as place markers and a speech
and sounds manager that promise to create more opportunities for JAWS
users.

Place markers give JAWS users

interface, users can add, name, navigate and remove permanent or temporary
place markers.
The new speech and
sounds manager is an industry first that allows all kinds of information
to be user definable. Examples of this exciting advancement include setting
JAWS to speak bolded text or quotes in a different voice or announce a
meaningful message for italicized, colored and underlined text. Or, set
a particular sound to indicate cursor focus, capitalization and indents.
JAWS 5.0 builds on its reputation as the most advanced screen reader released
today. In addition to its major developments, JAWS 5.0 also allows users
to personalize settings for specific Web sites, list form fields in a
separate field like they have been able to do with links and headings,
