_____________________________
(St.
Petersburg, FL - November 9, 2001) -- Freedom Scientific Inc., a leader
in assistive technology products for people with sensory impairments and
learning disabilities, has posted JAWS® for Windows Version 4.01 that
is compatible with the new Windows XP operating system-just two weeks
following Microsoft's release. The public download is free for current
JAWS 4.0 users.
"Microsoft is
pleased that Freedom Scientific was committed to supporting customers
using Windows XP so early on," said Gary Moulton, manager of Assistive
Technology Vendor Relations, Microsoft Corp. "It's important that
everyone has the ability to use Windows XP to discover their full potential."
JAWS 4.01 benefits
both the professional and home user with many other enhancements including
full support for display color depths up to 32-bit.
With the new HTML
Headings feature, web surfers will be able to find information faster
and easier, in particular with complex pages. JAWS 4.01 will view HTML
code headings and allows the user to quickly navigate to the category
or sub-category in that page.
JAWS 4.01 includes
a number of other improvements that boosts the functionality of the world's
leading screen reading software.
In September, Freedom
Scientific released JAWS® for Windows Version 4.0 with new state-of-the-art
technology and options including world class Braille and application support,
INSERT+F1 On Screen Help Messages, Powerful Customization Tools and a
Personal Tutor among its many new features.
With an installed base now over 71,000 worldwide, JAWS provides screen
reading technology to provide access to the Internet and today's popular
software applications including Microsoft® Office, Adobe® Acrobat®
Reader 5.0 PDF documents, Corel® Word Perfect®, and many others.
JAWS uses an integrated voice synthesizer and your computer's sound card
to output the content of your computer screen to speakers. JAWS also outputs
to refreshable Braille displays. This technology provides access to a
wide variety of information, education, and job related applications
