JAWS Script Developer

Freedom Scientific in north St.Petersburg, a leading developer of products for the blind and vision impaired, is looking for motivated developers for an opportunity working with the JAWS screen reader. JAWS, the market leader in assistive technologies for the visually impaired, provides users the ability to use computers and popular applications. This is made possible via the high-level JAWS scripting language.
Successful candidates will have two or more years experience with a high-level scripting/programming language. Position responsibilities for this include:
- Consult with Product Managers and other SW Engineers to gather information about program intent, using that information to design and implement new product features using the JAWS scripting language;
- Design and code JAWS scripts to make JAWS speak and behave correctly with applications or the operating system in general;
- Create tests to find errors and confirm that the program meets specifications;
- Analyze code to find causes of errors and revise programs;
- Write and maintain documentation of designs and changes to JAWS scripts;
- Review technical documentation written by others to confirm consistency with program operations.
Specific requirements for the position include:
- Strong knowledge of and experience with a high-level scripting or programming language such as Visual Basic, Perl or Java Script;
- Proven ability to develop product and/or implement features programmatically using a high-level programming language;
- Ability to provide effective user interface to users based on application capabilities;
- Working understanding of operating systems internals, especially Windows;
- Ability to debug and enhance existing code and take ownership of a technical area.
Successful candidates will have two or more years experience writing software applications using a high-level language such as Visual Basic, Perl or Java Script. The candidate must have a sense of urgency and drive in everything he/she does, with a demonstrated ability to deliver a complete, working solution that meets specified deadlines. Additionally, the candidate must have strong verbal and written communication skills, as well as the ability to work in teams.
