Quick Keys Settings

Navigation Quick Keys are on by default, but you can turn them off, or set them to work only within SayAll. Press INSERT+N (only when using the virtual cursor) to toggle this setting. You can also change this setting temporarily in the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box (INSERT+V), or permanently in JAWS Settings Center. For JAWS Settings Center:

  1. In Internet Explorer, press INSERT+F2.
  2. Select Settings Center, and press ENTER.
  3. Focus is in the Search edit box. Type in "navigation quick keys" without the quotes.
  4. Press DOWN ARROW to move to "Navigation Quick Keys" in the filtered results of the tree view in Settings Center.
  5. Press SPACEBAR to change the selection from on, on during SayAll only, or off.
  6. Press TAB to move to the OK button and activate it with the SPACEBAR. The changes are made and saved. Settings Center closes.

Navigation Quick Key Manager

Introduced in JAWS 10, Navigation Quick Key manager is used to view, edit, or delete Navigation Quick Key assignments. To open Navigation Quick Key manager do the following:

  1. Press INSERT+J to switch to the JAWS window.
  2. From within the JAWS window press ALT+U to open the Utilities menu.
  3. Press N to open the Navigation Quick Key manager submenu. Focus moves to the first item of three, HTML/PDF.
  4. Press DOWN ARROW to move through the other two items. You find one for Microsoft Word and one for Microsoft Outlook 2007.

NOTE: You can also find Navigation Quick Key Manager in the list of JAWS managers by pressing INSERT+F2.

Lists of Elements

If you hold down CTRL+INSERT before pressing certain navigation quick keys, JAWS displays a list of all elements of that particular type on the page. For example, to display a list of all check boxes on the page, press CTRL+INSERT+X. Use the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to select an item in the list. You can then press ENTER to move to that item's location on the page.

You can use this keystroke to view lists of the following elements: anchors, block quotes, buttons, check boxes, combo boxes, divisions, edit boxes, graphics, lists, items in a list, paragraphs, radio buttons, and tables.

Additionally, you can get a list of all Virtual HTML Features on a Web page by pressing INSERT+F3.

Remember to press ALT+F4 to close this page when you are finished reading it.
