Short Description
JAWS® 16 and JAWS 17 do not read the list view of emails in Mozilla® Thunderbird 52 and later.
Problem
JAWS 16 and JAWS 17 do not read, or output to Braille, the list of emails while navigating through any message box (i.e. Inbox). This is due to a change in how Thunderbird 52 presents the list on the screen. The problem has been resolved in JAWS 18 but the following is a workaround for JAWS 16 and JAWS 17.
Solution
Download an updated Thunderbird script file as follows:
- Go to the following link and save the file:
- Copy the downloaded file.
- Paste the downloaded file to the JAWS Settings\enu folder as follows:
In Windows® 10 and Windows 8.1:
- Open the JAWS UI (INSERT+J).
- Open Utilities Menu>Explore Utilities Folder.
- Open Explore My Settings.
- Paste the file here.
- Now run Thunderbird and press INSERT+0 to run the script manager.
- Press CTRL+S to save and compile the script and exit the script manager.
In Windows 7
- Open Start menu (Windows Key)
- Open All Programs>JAWS XX>Explore JAWS>Explore My Settings
- Paste the file here.
- Now run Thunderbird and press INSERT+0 to run the script manager.
- Press CTRL+S to save and compile the script and exit the script manager.
JAWS will now speak the email list.
