Question
What can I do if JAWS Convenient OCR isn't giving clear recognition results or runs text together?
Answer
The Convenient OCR takes the physical image on the screen at that moment, and
is dependent on many factors for accuracy. The feature responds most favorably
when it is getting a quality image and working with about 300 dpi. The clearer
and larger the image, the better the Convenient OCR results will be. It is not
going to be perfect, but it is intended to give a fighting chance where there
is no other option. A few tips you can employ to try to get the best image quality
from which to start include:
- Maximize the application window, (ALT+SPACEBAR, maximize option).
- Increase the document zoom level, often done via a View menu in the application. For instance, CTRL+1 changes the image to Actual Size in Adobe Reader.
- If your screen resolution is very low, try adjusting the resolution: depending on the system and monitor, larger resolution values can often yield sharper images.
