Teacher Guides for the PAC Mate QX400

Setting up an Ethernet card for Cable Modem or DSL Connection on Your PAC Mate

Using an Ethernet card, you can connect your PAC Mate directly to a network or a high-speed Internet connection. You may purchase an Ethernet card from Freedom Scientific.

Pocket PC 2003 (the operating system on the PAC Mate) has NE2003 drivers pre-installed allowing use of any NE2000 compatible network or Ethernet cards.

Installation

To begin installation, make sure your card is connected to a network or the Internet. Once the cable is connected to the card, plug it in to either of the two CompactFlash® slots at the back of the PAC Mate.

The first time you insert an Ethernet card, PAC Mate opens a dialog box for establishing connections. This dialog is in HTML format, so you will move through it differently than other dialog boxes. Press the arrow keys to navigate this dialog box.

As you press the DOWN ARROW to move down, you will come across a connection option. This network card will connect you to (1) Internet or (2) Work. This is a radio button option. To press one of these buttons, select the button you want, and press ENTER.

Since you are establishing an Internet connection, leave Internet checked. Press the DOWN ARROW to OK, then press ENTER to leave.

Press the DOWN ARROW to move through the rest of the settings. If you wish to change any settings, press ENTER on the link.

If you want more information on the settings, go into the Help system.
