Using Internet Explorer on the PAC Mate

Connecting to the internet

Before you can use Internet Explorer, you must be connected to the internet. There are many ways to connect to the Internet:

  • ActiveSync (see related module)
  • 56K modem
  • Ethernet card (cable modem or DSL)
  • Cell Phone
  • WiFi

Opening Internet Explorer

Once you are connected to the Internet, you can open Internet Explorer, and use it. To open Internet Explorer, press the WINDOWS Key. Then Press I until you hear Internet Explorer announced. Press ENTER to open Internet Explorer. (hear example)

The default Web page is a built-in Pocket PC 2003 home page.

Press INSERT+F7 to bring up a list of links. You can obtain and use link lists on the PAC Mate like you would on a desktop computer. (hear example)

Navigation quick keys

Some quick keys for navigating a page in Internet Explorer on the PAC Mate include the following:

  • H moves from heading to heading. SHIFT+H moves in reverse by heading. INSERT+F6 brings up a list of headings.
  • ALT+LEFT ARROW moves you back one page. BACKSPACE also moves you back one page.
  • N jumps past links to the first block of text. SHIFT+N jumps to previous blocks of text.

You can access a complete list of quick keys by pressing INSERT+F1, H. Be sure to press the ESC key when you are done reading these commands.

Note: The browser in PAC Mate is not the same as the browser on a desktop computer, so not all JAWS navigation commands work on the PAC Mate. For more navigation commands, press INSERT+F1,H.
