You may purchase
a 56K modem for your PAC Mate from Freedom Scientific. If you are
using a different card, please refer to the documentation for that modem
for installation.
Using ActiveSync
You must install drivers for the modem using ActiveSync. These drivers
will be on a CD that comes with the modem. If you are not sure how to
install drivers, please see the guide on Active Sync.
Plug the USB cable into the PAC Mate for ActiveSync. It should also be
plugged into the PC.
What Must be Open on your PC
Insert the CD for the modem into your PC's CD-ROM drive. Locate the driver
application for your 56K modem.
On the PC, press ENTER on the application for the 56K
modem to start it. You will hear instructions and a license agreement.
Press SPACEBAR and TAB to move through
these standard dialog boxes and begin setup.
- Press the SPACEBAR on "Yes" to begin installation
on the PAC Mate.

designated. You may leave it on this setting. Press TAB to
move on. Press TAB again to get to the "Next"

- Number to dial for connection: Type in the phone
number that you must dial to establish a connection. Your ISP should
provide this number to you. In a work environment, when necessary, add
"9," to reach an outside line (or whatever number your company
uses to reach outside). Press TAB to move to the "Next"
button and press SPACEBAR.
Note on area code: You can press TAB to bring
up an option to change the area code. If you travel or move, you will

Your ISP will provide this for you. Press TAB to move
to the next option.
