  • Help with Help

General Help

To access General help, go to the Start Menu. Press H or press the DOWN ARROW until you hear, "Help." (hear example)

All Help is presented in HTML form. Pressing ENTER on link will open the information under a specific Help item.

The following keystrokes will help you navigate PAC Mate Help efficiently:

  • Press H CHORD, L for a list of links - this is handy for looking by topic (hear example)
  • Press H CHORD, H for a list of headings (hear example)
  • Press DOTS 2-4-6 CHORD, ARROW to back up one screen (hear example)

These keystrokes will also work when you are accessing the Internet from your PAC Mate.

To close the general help, press ESC.

Keyboard Help

To access Keyboard Help, press DOTS 1-4-5-6-CHORD, K, to toggle on and off. Then press K. This keystroke combination toggles the keyboard help on and off. Press this same combination to turn the Keyboard Help off.

Press any key for information about that key or command. Nothing is actually being typed when you are in this Help mode. This can be handy for finding rarely-used keys. If you press a combination that is a JAWS command, that command will be described to you. (hear example)

To get out of Keyboard Help, press DOTS 1-4-5-6-CHORD, K. PAC Mate will announce that the help is off. (hear example)

Windows Help

To access Windows Help, press the DOTS 1-4-5-6 CHORD, W. This will provide you with Windows Help information. (hear example)

Applications-Specific Help

To use this help, go into a program. Press the Windows key for the Start Menu, then P for Programs. Choose a program to open. When you are in a program, you can access Applications-specific Help at any time by pressing F4, then press H. This will open the Help screen for the application you are currently in.

In the application, a window will open with Help that is specific to the application you are in. If, for example, you need help in FSEdit, open the program then press Windows Key+H. You will hear topics specific to FSEdit. (hear example)

Once you find what you need, press ESC to return to the application.

Context-Sensitive Help

JAWS can provide Help that is very specific to the task you are performing.

When you are performing a task and need help, press the DOTS 1-4-5-6 CHORD, H. JAWS will supply you with information about how to navigate, select information, etc. (hear example)

Press F1 to close the Help.
