Chording for Common Commands

Calendar

To get to the Calendar

Press F4 and then C until "Calendar" is announced.
Press ENTER.

Immediately, the List View is presented, and you hear the appointment date, defaulted at today. You also hear other items that are already entered for the day.

If there is more than one item in the List View, press the UP and DOWN ARROWS to move between the items.

For a new appointment

Press 1-4-6 CHORD, N.
Subject: Edit Combo

You are automatically in Edit Combo. You can arrow down through predefined entries to choose what you need to change. You also may enter your specific calendar event in the edit field. Once you have chosen an entry or typed in your calendar entry, press ENTER.  At this point, you can use the UP and DOWN ARROWS to move through the rest of the choices for that event.

Once you have pressed ENTER, you will be back in the List View. You will hear "Subject" as the top item of 11 choices. Press the arrow keys to move up or down to each item. When you are at an item you want to change, press ENTER to make the change. Once you are done, press ENTER again to save that change.

Settings you must set or may change:

  1. "Subject" - Type in the subject for the meeting. Press ENTER to save.

  2. "Location" - Type in where the meeting will be held. Press ENTER to save.

  3. "Starts" - Press UP and DOWN ARROWS to change the start time by half-hour increments. Press ENTER to save. If you need to change the start date for the appointment as well, press DOTS 1-4-6 CHORD, D.  This will bring up a Date Selector window where you can change the date for the appointment. To move by date, press RIGHT ARROW.  For more Date Selector commands, press DOTS 1-4-5-6 CHORD, H. This brings up the context-sensitive help for the Date Selector screen. Press ESC to close the message and return to the selector. Once you have the correct date set, press ENTER to return to the new appointment screen.

  4. "Ends" - Calendar defaults to one hour later than the start time you designated. Press ENTER to can change this time, using UP and DOWN ARROWS to move in half-hour increments as you did for "Starts." Press ENTER to save.

  5. "All day" - This option is set to "No" by default. Pressing ENTER allows you to change it to "Yes." Press ENTER to save.

  6. "Occurs" - The default is Once (the event only one ocurrs one time). If you press ENTER, you can change the event to occur weekly, monthly, yearly, or some sort of free-form pattern. Press ENTER to save.

  7. "Reminder" - The default is set to remind you 15 minutes before the starting time of the event. If you press ENTER, you can change whether or not you are automatically  reminded of the event by using the UP or DOWN ARROWS.  Press ENTER to save.  If you want to be reminded, but want a longer interval than 15 minutes, do the following: to change the reminder interval, press DOTS 1-4-6 CHORD, I and then arrow up or down to choose the interval (e.g. minutes, hours, etc.). Press ENTER to save. To change the time for the interval, press 1-4- 6 CHORD, T and then type in the time, (e.g. 1). Press ENTER to save.

  8. "Category" - You can choose to assign an event to a category. Press ENTER to change the category. Choices are business, holiday, and personal. Press ENTER to save.

  9. "Attendees" - This setting allows you to invite others to the meeting. Press ENTER to select this option, then choose attendees from your Contacts list. Press ENTER to save.

  10. "Status" - You may set the status to free, tentative, busy, or out of office. Press ENTER to change the status. Use the UP and DOWN ARROWS to select the status; press ENTER when you are done. Press ENTER to save.

  11. "Sensitivity" - You may also set sensitivity level of"Normal" or "Private" for the meeting. Press ENTER to change the sensitivity. Use the UP and DOWN ARROWS to select the preferred sensitivity. Press ENTER when you are done. Press ENTER to save.

To save the event, press ESC.

If the calendar event you just created is for today, it will populate the Today screen.
