Backing up and Restoring Files on Your PAC Mate

You will use ActiveSync to backup and restore files. This could be important in case you run your battery all the way down, or if you have to do a Hard Reset on your PAC Mate. In both cases, all your data would be lost, so it is important to backup your files.

Backing Up Files

To start ActiveSync, connect the USB cable to your PAC Mate and your PC. You will hear ActiveSync start. It may take a few minutes to let it synchronize. Once it is finished, you can begin the backup. (hear example)

On your PC, press ALT+T. This opens the Tools menu. Press the DOWN ARROW until you hear "backup/restore." Press ENTER.

You now come to a radio button list. From this list, you can choose an incremental backup or a full backup. Use the arrow keys to choose either incremental or full backup.

  • Incremental backup backs up files that have been changed or created since the last time you backed up
  • Full backup backs up all files from the PAC Mate, overwriting any files that may have been backed up before

Once you have chosen your preferred type of backup, press TAB. You will hear the location. This is a default which should be correct.

Press TAB until you reach the "Backup Now" button. The process takes a while. (hear example)

A tone will sound when the backup process is complete.

To finish, press ENTER on the OK button. You are now back in the main ActiveSync screen.

Restoring Files

You must also use ActiveSync for restoring files. This is similar to backing up files.

With ActiveSync open, on your PC, press ALT+T. Press the DOWN ARROW until you hear "backup/restore." Press ENTER.

Press CTRL+TAB to reach the Restore page. (hear example)

Important notes:

  • Through this process, all information currently stored on the PAC Mate will be replaced by the information backed up to the PC. If you already have information on the PAC Mate that you do not want to lose, this is not a good process to run.
  • Do not try to do anything on the PAC Mate while you run this process.
  • Once you've started the restore process, it cannot be aborted.

If you do want to Restore, press ENTER on the Restore button.

Once you are finished, you may remove the USB cable. Press ALT+F4 on the PC to close the ActiveSync window.
