ActiveSync between your PC and PAC Mate

ActiveSync synchronizes information on your desktop with information on the PAC Mate. This process updates both with the most recent information.

What You Need

In order to run ActiveSync, you must have Outlook 2000 (or later) on your PC. Outlook Express will not work for ActiveSync. If you do not have Outlook 2000, a copy is included on the companion disk.

Before you install ActiveSync, make sure your PAC Mate is not hooked up to your PC.

Insert the PAC Mate Companion CD into your PC. Find the link called "Start Here." (hear example)

Installing ActiveSync on the PC

If at any point you want to hear all the text in the dialog box, press I CHORD, W. You can confirm what button you are on by pressing I CHORD, E. (hear example)

  1. Press ENTER on "Start Here." The link you want is "Install ActiveSync." Press the DOWN ARROW until you find this link. (hear example)
  2. Press SPACEBAR for "Okay" to begin the installation process. You will hear an option to open the file or to save it. In this case, open it, and install "ActiveSync to PC."
  3. Press SPACEBAR on the "Next" button to continue the installation process.
  4. ActiveSync asks to connect "USB to Computer" using the supplied cable. Connect the PAC Mate to the PC at this point, using the USB cable. Once the PAC Mate is turned on and the cable is plugged into the computer, detection is automatic.
  5. Choose standard or guest partnership. This is a radio button option; press the SPACEBAR to select the radio button for one of these options: (hear example)
    • Standard is used to share files, documents, e-mails, calendar, etc. Standard partnership gives a list of what should or should not be synchronized. Any item checked will be included in the synchronization process.
    • Guest allows adding and removing of programs, and moving file.

Choosing What to Synchronize

Press TAB, then press the SPACEBAR on the "Next" button. You are now in a list view. This list view has with nine items that you can check to include in the synchronization process. (hear example) Check or uncheck items by pressing the SPACEBAR.

  1. AvantGo (a free interactive service for updating thousands of automatic pages from your PC and from the Internet)
  2. Calendar
  3. Contacts
  4. Favorites from Internet Explorer
  5. Files from desktop computer
  6. Inbox from Microsoft Outlook -
    Press TAB to settings to customize what items will or will not be included from Outlook. Press SPACEBAR on settings for the following:
    • All items need to be checked or unchecked. Press TAB.
    • Number of lines per message. Press TAB.
    • Copy messages from the last number of days back, or unchecking copies all messages. Press TAB.
    • Include file attachments. Press TAB.
    • Limit attachment size. Press TAB. Press ENTER on OK.

All these items have a settings button for further customization, if you wish.

To continue, press the SPACEBAR on the "Next" button. Press SPACEBAR on the "Finish" button; ActiveSync will take place automatically. All information chosen will be synchronized within a few moments.

Any changes made on the PAC Mate will be reflected on the computer next time ActiveSync takes place.

The next time ActiveSync runs, it will not ask for choices of items to be synchronized. Synchronization will just take place automatically.
