WYNN Tip: Scanning
and Reading in Other Languages in WYNN
WYNN can scan and read in several languages in addition to English.
Scanning Languages. The ability to correctly scan text in languages other than English is automatically set during the installation process. WYNN automatically installs 17 Western European scanning languages. Changing the scanning (recognition) language to a different installed language enables WYNN to correctly recognize any special characters in that language, such as á, ñ, ü, and others.
Reading Languages. The speech synthesizer included in WYNN, RealSpeak Solo, has the capability to read text aloud in US English, British English, Australian English, Spanish, Mexican Spanish, French, Canadian French, Italian, and German. Using the “Typical” install, WYNN installs US English, British English, Mexican Spanish, and Canadian French, with US English as the default. To install any of the other languages, use the Additional RealSpeak Languages CD that is shipped with WYNN 5.1.
Scanning a document in a language other than English:
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Choose Scanning Settings.
- Change Recognition Language to the language your document is in. This tells WYNN to correctly recognize all the characters in that language.
To have WYNN read a language other than English:
- Go to the Settings menu.
- Choose Speech Settings.
- Change the Language to the language your document is in. This tells WYNN to correctly pronounce the text using the rules for that language.
- Once you have set the speech language, you can choose among available voices using the Voice field. This displays the voices for the currently-selected language.
Note: If you want to see all the voices for all languages, you can set the Speech Language to "Multiple." Now the Voice field will display all the voices for all languages. You should only do this if you know which language each voice belongs to. They aren't always obvious.
