Freedom Scientific Introduces ONYX Portable HD

A Collapsible 3-in-1 Camera for Document Reading, Distance Viewing, and Self-View

Freedom Scientific today introduced the ONYX® Portable HD, a lightweight, portable 3-in-1 camera for reading, writing, and viewing magnified images at any distance. ONYX Portable HD offers a sleek, foldable, and compact body that enables students and professionals to easily carry their video magnifier from home to the classroom or the office.

Connected to either a monitor or a PC, the new ONYX Portable HD provides the comfort and productivity of stationary desktop models with HD image quality, wide magnification ranges, 33 configurable screen color modes, and adjustable reference lines and masks. Auto-focus allows for seamless work between distance and close reading tasks, and the Find function allows the user to quickly locate and zoom in on the next area of interest.

“This one-piece solution sets up quickly and connects to your PC to deliver smooth video over USB 3.0 while working seamlessly with screen magnification software like MAGic®,” said Brad Davis, Freedom Scientific's Vice President of Hardware Product Management. “The included GEM® software enables you to work in split-screen and save images to your PC, but if you are just connected to a monitor, the ONYX Portable HD also saves images directly to an SD card. Pair the portable camera with OpenBook® Scanning and Reading software to convert the text on documents and posters to clear, human-sounding speech.”
