Enhancements and Improvements in Earlier JAWS 11 Releases

This page describes all improvements made in previous JAWS 11 releases.

Enhancements in JAWS 11.0.1467 (August 2010)

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 11.0.1461 release and the JAWS 11.0.1467 posting. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in this release.

JAWS

Resolved an issue where the Focus 40 Blue braille display would no longer output braille in JAWS 10 during the upgrade process to JAWS 11. This only occurred on 64-bit Windows 7 computers.
Resolved issues and improved performance with the Reuters News, UPS Tracking, Business Search, MLB Scores, NFL Scores, and People Search lookup sources.

Excel

Resolved an issue where JAWS was not announcing that a cell was using AutoFilter to filter data in a worksheet. JAWS now announces ”AutoFilter has dropdown.“ Press ALT+DOWN ARROW to open the filtered list.
Resolved an issue where braille output was not correctly displayed when focus was in a combo box.

Firefox

Resolved an issue where JAWS would announce the previous radio button instead of the current one that has focus when moving through a group of radio buttons.

Internet Explorer

Resolved an issue reported by IBM regarding MSHTA settings in Internet Explorer scripts.

Lotus Notes

Resolved an issue where JAWS did not announce menu items when moving up and down in menus.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not announcing items in the Lotus Notes calendar.

Outlook

Resolved an issue where JAWS would lose speech after reaching the bottom of an Outlook 2007 message.
Resolved an issue in international versions of JAWS where the right CTRL key did not work properly when combined with other keystrokes. This was observed in read-only messages in Outlook 2007.

Windows Explorer

Resolved an issue where JAWS was providing the wrong keyboard echo when using Windows Explorer in Windows 7.

Word

Resolved an issue where JAWS repeated the form field name with each character typed in an edit field of a tabular form.

Enhancements in JAWS 11.0.1461 (June 2010)

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 11.0.1447 release and the JAWS 11.0.1461 posting. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in this release.

JAWS

Resolved an issue where letters were lost when using Typing Mode with a Focus braille display.
Resolved a customer reported issue where JAWS was announcing large negative values in combo boxes.
JAWS no longer duplicates information that is typed into form edit fields.
Resolved issues and improved performance with the Convert Currency and MLB Scores lookup sources in Research It.

Word and Outlook

Addressed an issue reported by The Lighthouse of Houston related to the spell checker not working as expected when using a third party add-in with Word.
When in a table in a Word document, the INSERT+TAB keystroke correctly announces the cell content along with column and row title.
The default setting for graphics detection in all versions of Word and Outlook 2007 or later is set to Labeled by default. This means that JAWS announces alt text (if available) and image dimensions.
Resolved an issue where tutor messages were spoken before relevant information when using the ARROW Keys to read the next line or previous line in an Outlook 2010 e-mail message. This fix also resolves an issue where tutor messages were spoken with each press of an ARROW Key when moving through a message folder.
JAWS no longer announces an unknown function call error when Outlook 2003 is configured to request a user name and password before launching.

Lotus Notes

Resolved two issues with Lotus Notes®. JAWS now announces labels for the date and time fields in a calendar entry. Also, the ALT+DOWN ARROW keystroke now opens the combo box for date and time fields.
Resolved an issue with Lotus® Sametime® software where JAWS was not reading chat history when using the ARROW Keys.
The Lotus Notes topic in the JAWS help file has been updated to include the latest application functionality and keystrokes.

Enhancements in JAWS 11.0.1447 (May 2010)

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 11.0.1430 release and the JAWS 11.0.1447 posting. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in this release.

JAWS

Fixed an issue with the History menu not being read in the Lotus Notes Sametime Instant Messaging program.
Fixed a problem with braille routing in the subject line of Outlook 2007 and Outlook 2010 e-mails.
Fixed an intermittent problem in Outlook 2007 e-mails where Outlook was crashing when using ARROW Keys to move across imbedded links.
Updated Winamp scripts.
Resolved an issue with the Qwitter client on 64-bit Windows 7 systems.

Research It

Resolved an issue with the Stock Quotes lookup source where NASDAQ quotes were not updating in real time.
Resolved issues with the Business Search, Wikipedia, Area Code, Currency Converter, and Time Search lookup sources. In some cases, minor changes to lookup sources were made due to changes on external Web sites.

Windows Live Mail

Resolved an issue in Windows Live Mail where the entire Menu bar was announced when you created a new message, then moved to the body of the message, and then returned to the Menu bar.
Resolved an issue where JAWS did not announce the number of unread messages for any folder when navigating through the folder's tree view.
Resolved an issue when inserting a signature into a new Windows Live e-mail message. The problem appeared after you inserted a signature and then tried to navigate through the message body using ARROW Keys. This resulted in Forms Mode sounds being heard, and focus remaining in the signature text.
Resolved an issue where strange text was announced by JAWS when pressing UP ARROW or DOWN ARROW in a blank To, CC, BCC, or Subject edit field.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would not read the header and content of the next message after you deleted an opened e-mail message.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would not correctly announce the header or content of e-mail messages when using CTRL+PERIOD or CTRL+COMMA to move to the next or previous message.

Enhancements in JAWS 11.0.1430 (April 2010)

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 11.0.756 release and the JAWS 11.0.1430 posting. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in this release.

JAWS

Resolved an issue with the People Search lookup source in Research It. The problem appeared when entering a First and Last Name along with City and State. In some cases, the search would fail if the 411.com Web site returned results that included middle initials. People Search should prove to be much more reliable now.
The U for Unicode that follows the JAWS serial number in the UI has been removed. All JAWS versions are now Unicode.
Resolved an issue when using JAWS with certain HP scanners.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not correctly announcing list box items after turning on this functionality in Configuration Manager.
Resolved an issue where the braille display would go blank when selecting text in a WordPad document.
JAWS correctly announces the time and date without double speaking when Windows is configured for 24-hour time format.
Sixty-four bit versions of JAWS can use 32-bit SAPI 5 synthesizer and voices when running 64-bit Windows operating systems.
Resolved an issue where the SAPI 5 speech rate would fluctuate when running 64-bit Windows operating systems.
Created the INSERT+SPACEBAR, S keystroke to toggle speech while using a braille display.
Resolved an issue when reading DAISY books while running JAWS and OpenBook together.
Updated the currency abbreviations for the Convert Currency lookup source in Research It.
Resolved an issue when running Research It directly from the Run JAWS Manager dialog box with Word or Internet Explorer.
Updated the descriptions of several Research It lookup sources.
The FedEx lookup source has been removed from Research It.
A recent change to the yellowpages.com Web site caused the Business Search lookup source in Research It to stop working. We are currently working to resolve this issue so that Business Search once again shows the correct results.
Resolved a double-speak issue with the read-only text in the Research It dialog box.
Resolved an issue with duplicate access keys in the Research It dialog box.
Updated the People Search lookup source to work correctly with the People Search Web site.
Resolved an issue with system sounds received from the controller during a JAWS Tandem session.
Resolved an issue when using the RIGHT SHIFT key during a JAWS Tandem session.
Resolved an issue when closing the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box without saving changes to any options.
JAWS now has functionality to cancel layered keystrokes.
Resolved contracted English braille errors with the e-r, e-n, o-u, o-w, and e-d signs. Also resolved an error where two-letter contractions followed by an underscore were being translated.
Addressed an issue where braille was not reading some combo boxes when using Forms mode.
The Edit Schemes Dialog topic in the JAWS help file has been updated and corrected.
Corrected minor errors in the help descriptions in the Excel Adjust JAWS Options dialog box.
Clarified the description of the keystrokes to switch between different conversations in Windows Live Messenger and MSN Messenger.
Corrected a misspelling in the Java Getting Started help topic.
Corrected several keystrokes mentioned in the Internet Explorer hot key help.
Added Taiwanese braille table.
Expanded the amount of text that can be typed into the Word or Phrase edit combo box.
Resolved an issue where the braille cursor appeared at the end of a text string but would not display prior text when moving from one application to another.
Provided a Next link to view additional People Search items when more than 10 results are returned.
Resolved an issue where links in the Research It Virtual Viewer did not work when selected.
Updated the help text that describes how to type a term for the Business Search lookup source.
Updated the help text in the Research It dialog box that describes the Convert Currency lookup source.
The braille display now correctly tracks in Word when multiple lines are selected.
Results using the NBA lookup source display correctly in the Virtual Viewer.
Radio buttons in the HTML Options dialog box of Configuration Manager no longer appear blank and can be selected.
Any Research It lookup sources removed in a previous release are restored to the list of items when you update JAWS.
The word "this'll" is now correctly handled by the braille translator.
The word “which'll” no longer uses the which sign.
The HJCONST.JSH file has been updated.

Access

The keystrokes to create and delete relationships in Access 2007 are now available in screen sensitive help.
Resolved an issue where JAWS did not announce that relationships existed when moving through list items.

Adobe Flex

JAWS announces selected text when running Adobe Flex.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading Web pages with Adobe Flex Flash objects.
Tutor messages for buttons now state that you must press SPACEBAR instead of ENTER to activate the button.

Adobe Reader

JAWS now recognizes the Collaborate button control in the Search dialog box for Adobe Reader 9.
Resolved an issue where JAWS did not recognize the Options button or menu control found in different navigation panels.
Resolved an issue where JAWS did not recognize the Show button or menu control in the Comments navigation panel.
Resolved an issue where JAWS did not recognize the Highlight Color button or menu control in the Model Tree navigation panel.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was announcing incorrect information when using the navigation quick key S for next same element on any page title.

Excel

Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reporting style changes when moving between cells.
The CTRL+SHIFT+SPACEBAR keystroke now selects and provides information about a region.
JAWS is now announcing tutor messages for selected Ribbon items.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not announcing row and column totals based on the setting of the INSERT+V options.
When a link is also a formula, JAWS can activate the link as it does with standard hyperlinks.
When Filtered Column and Row Detection is on, JAWS will also announce which columns and rows are being filtered when moving into filtered cells.
The JAWS keystroke works for setting column and row titles when running JAWS and MAGic together.
When saving a setting that is not related to column and row title changes, the .JSI file for the current workbook is correctly updated.
Resolved an issue where JAWS does not announce, but does display with braille, a link that is a cell reference.
Corrected misspelling in the Reading Options section of the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box.
Clarified the descriptions for the column title and row title options.
Monitored cells maintain their settings when data changes are made in a workbook.
If the number of objects in a worksheet do not change, JAWS no longer repeats object counts when you move away from and return to the worksheet.
When editing a description for a macro, the ARROW Keys no longer cause the whole description to be read rather than giving feedback on the exact position in the description.
Descriptions for the ALT+1 through ALT+4 keystrokes have been updated in the JAWS help file.
Excel no longer remains in memory after closing an application.
When a list of columns, rows, or other cell type is invoked, JAWS now moves focus to the cell nearest the active cell rather than at the top of the cell list that has the desired condition.
When a link is a formula, JAWS now reads both formula and hyperlink information when ALT+SHIFT+H is pressed.
Resolved an issue where the row and column total announcement could not be set correctly.

Firefox

Resolved an issue where JAWS did not correctly announce text when moving through the contents of an edit box
Resolved an issue where JAWS would speak the underlying URL as part of the ARIA tab text.
When a tree grid row is expanded or collapsed, JAWS now announces if the item is opened or closed and does not double speak the table row name.
JAWS now announces the value of a spin box control after the value changes.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not announcing the value of Form controls.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not entering Form mode or correctly reading column headers in a table
Web pages now scroll correctly when using the SEMICOLON or SHIFT+SEMICOLON keystrokes to move to ARIA landmarks.
Resolved an issue where pressing the SPACEBAR while in Forms mode on an ARIA tab control caused braille to output text from a different location on the Web page
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading the header cells when moving into an ARIA table grid.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not speaking the expanded or collapsed state of tree grid rows.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not speaking accessible descriptions for ARIA links.
When navigating a slider control in Firefox, JAWS now announces the slider value.
JAWS no longer announces blank when using LEFT and RIGHT ARROWS to navigate items on the menu bar.
When navigating to a button inside a toolbar, JAWS now announces that focus is in a toolbar.
JAWS no longer exits Forms mode when focus moves to a control with the MSAA linked state set.
Resolved an issue with Google.com search results where JAWS would announce a blank line between a link and the description text even though one was not visually present.
JAWS no longer announces random text on a Web page when focus moves to an edit box control.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not reading the correct text when in Forms mode while using Facebook.

Internet Explorer

JAWS will read HTML table headers if the cells contain ARIA attributes.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would double speak when moving between rows in a tree grid.
Resolved an issue reported when reading tables in Internet Explorer 7.
Resolved reported issues on certain Web pages where JAWS was not correctly announcing button labels.
Updated the INSERT+H help message for Internet Explorer. The correct keystrokes for reading the next column or row and the prior column or row are now announced.
Resolved an issue with the INSERT+F1 help for edit and form controls on a Web page.

Lotus Symphony

Resolved an issue where JAWS would announce the prior line when using the UP or DOWN ARROWS to move to a heading in Symphony.
The panning keys on a braille display now advance to the next and previous lines of the document.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would announce the previous item or speak twice when using the F6 or ARROW Keys.
The navigation quick keys now work reliably in Symphony.

Multiple Applications

Resolved an issue where braille was not showing the cursor when typing past the end of the display while running Word, WordPad, Outlook, and so on.
Resolved an issue regarding what JAWS announced after pressing the navigation quick key S while running a Web browser or Adobe Reader.

Notepad

Resolved an issue in Notepad where JAWS failed to read lines of text as the screen was updated.

Office

Resolved an issue in Outlook 2007 and Word where JAWS would announce paragraphs twice when navigating a table using CTRL+DOWN ARROW.
When saving an Office application, JAWS now announces the folder that the file will be saved to when ALT+I is pressed while the Save As dialog box is open.
After changing the setting of an option, JAWS no longer announces the change when the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box closes.
JAWS makes no announcement when you close the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box without changing an option.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would not pause when announcing an option, its current setting, and help text description when navigating Table options in the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box.
Resolved an issue where braille flash messages appeared when navigating Ribbons and edit boxes.

Outlook

Resolved an issue in Outlook 2007 where JAWS did not announce items selected in a message list.
Resolved an issue where the Word application help opened instead of the Outlook hot key help when pressing INSERT+H.
Resolved an issue in the German version of Outlook. The problem was observed when creating and navigating through a distribution list in the Outlook address book.
Resolved an issue in Outlook 2003 where JAWS would read the previous HTML e-mail message instead of the current message.
Resolved an issue when using the ALT+a digit, ALT+DOWN ARROW, or ALT+UP ARROW keystrokes to change the Calendar view in Outlook.
JAWS now announces links in the Navigation pane of the Calendar view when using ARROW Keys.
JAWS now functions correctly when Outlook is configured to run spell check automatically before sending an e-mail message.
JAWS 11 now uses the Message voice when navigating an e-mail message list.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would make the wrong announcement when closing a split button dialog box.
JAWS no longer announces font and attribute information after these items are turned off in the Speech and Sounds Manager.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would not speak or braille a flagged message unless the subject edit box was blank.
Improved the way JAWS reads the New Document dialog in Office 2007 applications.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would not correctly announce Out Of Office AutoReply messages that appear in the Inbox message list.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would repeat an e-mail message if the first or last message in the list contained an attachment or was a Reply To message.
Resolved an issue where the SHIFT+H keystroke would not move to a prior heading in an open e-mail message.
The ALT+I keystroke can now be used in Outlook to announce the folder that the file will be saved to when the Save As dialog box is open.
JAWS reads menu items normally when using the JAWS Cursor. The special emphasis on the hot key portion is no longer spoken before the rest of the item.
Resolved an issue where non-English versions of JAWS were not reading the unread message status correctly in Outlook.
Resolved an issue where JAWS 11 would exit Navigation Quick Key mode (INSERT+Z) after making a change in a document or e-mail message.
When reading message header information, it now appears in braille.
When an items list is invoked, focus moves to the list closest to the current point in the document.

PowerPoint

The announcement of slide transition in PowerPoint is now off by default.
Resolved an issue in PowerPoint where JAWS would spell slide titles instead of announcing them when using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move through the thumbnails pane.

Skype

Corrected misspelling in hot key help.
When navigating through the Skype Option’s tree view list, focus now moves to the correct instance of the Sounds and Video settings pages when pressing TAB or SHIFT+TAB.

Windows

Resolved an issue where an error message appeared when closing JAWS after starting a Window XP computer.

Windows 7

Resolved an issue where Word would fail when accessing a protected document on a Windows 7 computer.
Resolved an issue in WordPad on a Windows 7 computer that caused the braille display to go blank.

Windows Explorer

Resolved an issue where JAWS provided no feedback when using CTRL+A to select all items in Windows Explorer on Windows 7 computers.

Windows Live Messenger

Resolved an issue where the ALT+1 through ALT+9 keystrokes in Windows Live Messenger were not reliably reading message history.

Word

Resolved an issue where proofreading elements in Word 2010 were not available when a document was opened in protected view.
Resolved a reported issue in Word 2007 where you would lose text as you typed.
Resolved an issue where Say All read poorly in Word tables.
When a protected form includes graphics, JAWS announces this information as the document opens.
Braille and speech are now synchronized when tabbing through a protected tabular form.
Resolved an issue where JAWS did not indicate that an object had focus when ENTER was pressed to move to it from within the Inline Objects dialog box.
Resolved an issue where spelling or grammar mistakes were spoken twice when navigating into or out of the error.
Resolved an issue where focus navigation did not move correctly when starting in the Apply Styles dialog box and then pressing F6 to move to other areas of the Word application and document.
Resolved an issue where focus would move back to the document area when changing options in the Restrict Formatting and Editing task pane.
JAWS correctly announces radio buttons and edit boxes in the Page Range group in the Print dialog box.
If a Word table with three or fewer columns is saved as an HTML table, JAWS now speaks column headers when using table reading commands.
Resolved an issue where a braille display’s routing buttons would turn off Extended Selection mode.
When changing Word option settings using the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box, JAWS no longer announces changes when you exit the dialog box.
When a heading level is a list item, the outline level number is now also announced with navigation quick keys.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was not announcing the Text Format edit box items in the Text Form Field Options dialog box.
JAWS now correctly announces in speech and braille when you navigate into and out of review comments in a Word document.
Resolved an issue where Word would close when using a braille display and navigating tables using the Navigation Quick Key T.
Resolved an issue for international braille display users where the display sporadically jumped when editing bulleted lists
When the native keys for indent, hanging indent, and remove indents are pressed outside the document window, JAWS no longer announces that indentation has taken place.

Enhancements in JAWS 11.0.756 (December 2009)

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 11.0.746 release and the JAWS 11.0.756 posting. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in this release.

Resolved an issue in Windows 7 where properly authorized JAWS licenses were being asked to reactivate after rebooting.
Improvements have been made to the way JAWS recognizes all data tables that are tagged with the <TH> component.
Resolved an issue with FSReader 2.0 where audio content was not being played after pressing CTRL+P.
The Set Row Total and the Set Column Total functions now correctly define and report the row or column total for the selected cell in an Excel worksheet.
Resolved an issue in Excel where some settings were not correctly saved after closing the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box.
JAWS correctly identifies tables using the Navigation Quick Key T when running Internet Explorer 7 or Internet Explorer 8.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would frequently shut down when running Windows Explorer in Windows 7.
When using Firefox, JAWS correctly enters Forms Mode and reads table headings.
Resolved a reported issue when using Terminal Services or Remote desktop if connecting to a computer running Windows 7.
Resolved a reported issue in Internet Explorer edit controls where text being selected was not being announced as expected.

The following lookup sources have been added to the JAWS Research It feature in this release. Remember that you can quickly access lookup sources using the INSERT+SPACEBAR, R keystroke. See previous lookup sources for a list of items added in an earlier release.

Area Code Lookup: Type a U.S. or Canadian area code into the lookup edit field and learn the city, state, or province location for that area code.
Business Search: Allows you to search for a specific or general business in your area using its name or business category and location. The location can be in the form of a zip code, city, or city and state. Search results will provide the name, address, phone number, and, when applicable, Web site link. Always use a semicolon to separate the business name or category from the location, for example, pizza; 33716. This particular search will return a list of pizza restaurants in and around the 33716 zip code. If you know the name and location of a business, such as John Doe Plumbing in St. Petersburg, Florida, you can type John Doe Plumbing; St Petersburg, FL to retrieve the address and phone number. If you would rather see results for more plumbers in your city, enter the term plumbers and then the location for a list of these businesses in your area. Note: Use a comma to separate the city and state location. Also, do not use a period when typing city name abbreviations, for example, type St Petersburg, FL, or Washington, DC.
Convert Currency: Use this lookup source to convert an amount of money from one currency into a foreign equivalent. The current day’s exchange rate is used to convert the currency values typed into the lookup edit field. Note: Three letter abbreviations are used to represent international currencies, for example, USD for U.S. dollars, GBP for British pounds, or EUR for Euros. To view a list of valid currency abbreviations, select the Convert Currency lookup without entering a monetary value. Research It will indicate that you must enter valid currency values and will then display a list of currency abbreviations for numerous countries. Run Convert Currency again, but this time use the appropriate currency abbreviations from the previous list. When typing currencies and amounts into the lookup edit field, first type the amount and currency you are converting from, and then type the currency that you are converting to. For example, to convert 100 U.S. dollars into British pounds, type 100 USD GBP using a space between each item typed. The result will appear similar to 100 U.S. dollars = 61. 2070021 British pounds.
FedEx Tracking: Returns status information for a valid FedEx® tracking number. Note: You may want to consider making this your default lookup source if your job requires you to frequently track FedEx shipments.

Note: After JAWS is updated, if you do not have 17 lookup sources listed, refer to the TSN: New Research It items are not listed after updating JAWS from an older version.

Enhancements in JAWS 11.0.746 (November 2009)

The following is a list of items addressed or added between the final JAWS 11.0.734 release and the JAWS 11.0.746 posting. All enhancements since the initial public beta release are included in this release.

This release, posted on November 24, 2009, resolves an issue with new Windows 7 installations where JAWS would request that you install the mirror driver after using certain programs such as iTunes® 9.0.2 or Roxio Creator® 2010. This has now been resolved for JAWS 11. If you are running JAWS 11.0.734 or earlier, please use the Check for Updates feature in the JAWS Help menu to download and install the latest JAWS release.

The following lookup sources have been added to the JAWS Research It feature in release 11.0.746. Remember that you can quickly access lookup sources using the INSERT+SPACEBAR, R keystroke.

Amazon Product Search: Displays search results from Amazon.com® for the word or item entered in the edit field. Results appear as links followed by price and shipping information.
Bookshare™ Book Search: Displays search results from Bookshare.org based on an author’s name, a book’s ISBN number, or words found in a book title or book description. If a match is found, the result appears as a link containing the author, title, and copyright date.
Health Search on WebMD: Provides search results from the Web site WebMD® for the words entered in the lookup edit field or located at the current cursor position in a document or Web page. If a match is found, results appear as links followed by a brief synopsis. Note: You may be interested in using this as your primary lookup source if your job requires you to search for and use medical terms.
Stock Quotes: Displays current and up to 52-week historical financial information for the stock symbol entered in the edit field or selected from a document, spreadsheet, or Web page.
Time Search: Displays the current time and time zone for any location typed into the edit field. Note: Be specific when entering a location since one name may represent multiple cities. For example, if you only type London into the edit field, you will receive time results for London, England, U.K., London, Ontario, Canada, and London, Arkansas, U.S.A. Resolved a reported issue in Acrobat Reader where JAWS would not always navigate away from combo or list boxes after entering and exiting Forms Mode.
The Virtual buffer location now follows the document's visual location when using CTRL+PAGE DOWN.

Apple iTunes 9

Resolved an issue in iTunes 9 where the Virtual Cursor was always sent to the top of the page after pressing a preview button on an album page. Note that resolving this issue will result in the Virtual Cursor not always being at the top of new pages when they load. In this case, you will have to press CTRL+HOME to move to the top if you want to start reading there.
Resolved issues reported in iTunes 9 regarding empty virtual buffers in the iTunes store.
Resolved an issue where the iTunes process remained running after performing a search in the iTunes store and then closing the iTunes application.
Resolved problems that started in Version 9 of the iTunes Store's HTML content. After searching for music, you no longer need to press INSERT+ESC to refresh the virtual buffer to see updated information such as album details, podcast information, and so on.
Resolved an issue where text was not read correctly in the search edit field if you pressed BACKSPACE to remove text you had typed. Turning on Enhanced Edit in the iTunes.jcf file also addressed the issue for JAWS 10.
Resolved an issue where the Virtual buffer was not active, and, as a result, much of the store content was not accessible.

DotNet

Resolved an issue where JAWS 10 was not reading next or prior characters when the PC Cursor is in a read-only text box.

Eudora E-mail

Eudora e-mail scripts have been updated and include updated help messages when viewing Eudora settings from the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box (INSERT+V).

Internet Explorer

Resolved an issue when using Internet Explorer 8 on non-English Windows XP operating systems where pressing TAB to move to the compatibility button on the tool bar would result in a lock-up or instability.
Resolved an issue reported in Internet Explorer 7 where, after using ALT+DOWN ARROW to open a combo box, JAWS would not announce the highlighted item while navigating a Web page.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would not properly disable Flash content on Web pages in the JAWS Options dialog box.
JAWS no longer reads the wrong page at www.dominos.ca.
When using CTRL+TAB or CTRL+SHIFT+TAB to move between tab pages in Internet Explorer, the sluggishness that was once observed when using ARROW Keys to move about a Web page has been resolved.
When using the JAWS Find feature, if the search string included more than 10 characters, the search feature will now wrap from the bottom of the Web page to the top to continue the search.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was inserting unnecessary blank lines on pages when a braille user set the Document Presentation option to Screen Layout.
The announcement of Frame Name and Text was not automatically being announced when using the TAB key to navigate to it. This has been resolved.

JAWS now announces items instead of saying "Not selected" when navigating through the list of items that appear in the Internet Explorer Download dialog box on a Windows 7 computer.
INSERT+F7 on www.liveatc.net now shows all links found on the page.
Resolved a specific issue in Internet Explorer where pressing SPACEBAR on a check box, with Forms Mode off, did not echo the prompt and state of the check box.

MAGic

Resolved an issue where scripts, written and provided in MAGic for an application, would not always load while running JAWS and MAGic together, even though JAWS does not have scripts for the application.
Resolved an issue where the Oval and Triangle cursor enhancement attributes in MAGic were not fully visible when running JAWS and MAGic together.
When running JAWS and MAGic together, you can successfully select words in a Word document by double-clicking with the mouse.
When running JAWS and MAGic together, you can move the mouse across a line of text in an application without interrupting JAWS speech and having JAWS repeat the text.

Microsoft Access

Resolved a reported issue in Microsoft Access where JAWS was not properly tracking in grid controls.

Microsoft Excel

Resolved a reported problem where the JAWS feature to return to a previous cell, CTRL+SHIFT+GRAVE, after having moved to a monitor cell was not working as expected.
Excel Title Reading Verbosity and Title Reading row and column definitions are being ignored after saving.
Identified an issue in Microsoft Excel when trying to use the JAWS feature to "Append To Clipboard" WINDOWS Key+C. This problem was causing a crash of Excel in some cases so we disabled the Append to Clipboard JAWS feature for this application only.
Help messages for setting column and row titles through Adjust JAWS Options have been updated.
When you navigate to a monitor cell in a worksheet, and then press CTRL+SHIFT+GRAVE, focus will now return to the cell that had prior focus.
In an Excel worksheet, where the view is set to Split Window or Freeze Panes Window, JAWS will now list cells with comments when you press CTRL+SHIFT+APOSTROPHE.
Page Break Detection, CTRL+SHIFT+B, can be turned on or off for the current Excel worksheet using the INSERT+V, Adjust JAWS options, keystroke.
Using CTRL+SHIFT+B, you can view a list of cells located at horizontal and vertical page breaks in an Excel worksheet.
Form Control Detection, used to identify list boxes, check boxes, and similar form controls, can be turned on or off for the current Excel worksheet using INSERT+V.
If a worksheet contains a text box, JAWS can show the contents of the text box in a Virtual Viewer window when you press CTRL+SHIFT+T.
JAWS now reports meaningful color control values when navigating the controls of the Fill tab in the Format Cells dialog box (CTRL+SHIFT+P).
Addressed a reported issue where workbooks that contain multiple worksheets would sometimes read cell text from the wrong worksheet when switching back and forth.

Microsoft Office

JAWS can now see the buttons in the Microsoft Office 2007 installer on Windows 7 computers.
When using the Scope attribute with the <TD> tag in an HTML table, JAWS correctly processes the tag and reads table row and column headings.
The keyboard help message for CTRL+T now states that the keystroke creates a hanging indent when used while working in a Word document or composing an Outlook e-mail message. Otherwise, the keystroke will perform its default action.
JAWS now selects and announces all characters and punctuation when using Extended Mode (F8) to select characters or punctuation in a Word or Outlook document.
The ALT+1 through ALT+4 keystrokes in Office 2007 applications, such as Word and PowerPoint, have been unassigned in JAWS to avoid conflicts with any quick access toolbar functions native to those applications.

Microsoft Outlook

Resolved reported issues where prompts were not read properly when saving message attachments in Outlook 2003.
Resolved an issue where the sender of a message was not being announced if there was no subject for the message.
Resolved an intermittent issue in Outlook 2003 where, when an e-mail message is opened, JAWS announces "dal= on" at the top of the message.
Addressed several reported issues that occurred when using CTRL+D to delete Outlook e-mails. In some cases, JAWS was not reading other HTML e-mail messages after deleting the current message. This has been resolved.
Resolved a reported issue where the presence of a Flag associated with a message was not being indicated while navigating through the Outlook 2003 Inbox.
Resolved an issue where there was speech delay when using the ARROW Keys to move through Outlook 2007 menus on a Windows XP computer.
Resolved a reported issue where Outlook 2007 failed to close for 30 seconds or more when using a braille display connected via USB.
Resolved an issue where JAWS would announce "0 items" when switching from a folder with no items to a folder that contains items.
Resolved a reported issue where Rich Text messages were being read in Outlook XP and Outlook 2003.
JAWS no longer misreads Header fields with shortcut keys after focus is placed in the Tasks notes field.
Resolved an issue where JAWS was very sluggish when navigating through grouped messages in Outlook message folders.
Resolved an issue when reading an e-mail sent from Outlook 2003 would insert a space character on each blank line.
Blank lines are inserted before DIV tags when they should only cause a new line. This causes excessive white space in e-mail messages.
Text is now entered when typing in the Text Search Pattern edit field of the Skim Reading dialog box in an Outlook 2007 message.
Resolved a reported issue with sluggish performance in Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 when navigating through messages in an Exchange Server folder with Windows Vista and VPN access.
With Outlook AutoPreview turned on, move through the message list and JAWS now speaks the Preview window.
Folder names are announced correctly when you press TAB to move from the message list to the Folder tree view.
Resolved an issue reported in Outlook 2003 where the message list appeared to be empty except for message flags in certain situations.
Resolved reported issues when using CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW to select text was not always announcing the text in Outlook and Word.
The first two lines of a highlighted message are now read when AutoPreview is on.
Resolved a reported issue where Navigation Quick Key mode was not working correctly when reading or reviewing messages.
Now able to read text when composing an out of office note in Outlook 2007 and using UP and DOWN ARROW keys.
In Outlook, JAWS now announces the sender of the message when there is no text in the Subject field.
Resolved an issue where JAWS speech stopped after pressing the Reply Directly to Sender command (JAWS Key+SHIFT+R).
INSERT+F1 help messages for the JAWS list of links feature have been updated for link fields.
If you have two identical messages that are sent one after the other, JAWS will now read both messages when navigating through the Sent Items list box.
Complete message information is now displayed or spoken when pressing ESC to exit a menu or dialog box that is at least two levels deep.
In Outlook 2003, JAWS is now speaking correctly when you select non-contiguous items in the address book when addressing a message.
Information is now announced by JAWS when navigating forward or backward through the checkbox options that appear in the Toolbar's Customize dialog box under the View menu.
In the new contact dialog box, phone number labels are correctly announced as business, home, mobile, and so on.
JAWS no longer announces additional date and time abbreviations when moving through Calendar time slots using UP or DOWN ARROW.
When you press CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW to select paragraphs in an e-mail message, JAWS now reads the selected paragraph text.
When using the ARROW Keys to navigate through the list of results in the Advance Find dialog box, the highlighted messages are now announced only once.
JAWS now correctly reads the Subject line information of any e-mail message that begins with the word "Attachment" in its subject line.
JAWS now announces location elements once when using the UP or DOWN ARROW keys to move through the New Appointments dialog box.
The Location label is now announced by JAWS when you press TAB to move through the Appointment dialog box.
If you launch the Research It feature from an open e-mail message, pressing ESC to close the Virtual Viewer window no longer closes the e-mail message too.
Sluggishness, once seen when moving through various dialog boxes, no longer occurs in Outlook.
When you move from a message list to a folder tree view, JAWS now announces the number of unread messages for the selected folder.
If the current view is set to show all appointments, active appointments, or reoccurring appointments in Calendar, JAWS now reads the currently highlighted item when using the UP and DOWN ARROWS to move through the list.
JAWS correctly speaks and displays in braille any items that are highlighted when using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move through a list of tasks and appointments.
When an appointment starts and ends, for example at 18:15 and 18:45, when the Regional and Language settings are configured for French, the end time slot is now tagged as containing the appointment.
When composing an e-mail while the Font dialog box is open in Outlook Express, JAWS no longer plays the Forms Mode On sound when you first enter the dialog box.
The Microsoft Outlook 2007 key map file (.jkm) has been updated to include the following keystrokes and functionality: F8 = Selection by Unit Mode, SHIFT+F8 = Reduce Selection by Unit, and CTRL+SHIFT+F8 = Selection by Movement Mode.
Now, when reading link text in an Outlook 2007 e-mail message, JAWS no longer announces the words “end link” after reading a link in an HTML e-mail message. If you want to restore this announcement, you can do so by pressing INSERT+V to open the Adjust JAWS Options dialog box and then toggling on the Announce End Links in a Message item in the Reading Options group.
W, the Navigation Quick Key for the Word Index List feature, works with Outlook 2007 read-only messages.

Microsoft PowerPoint

Resolved a reported issue where PowerPoint 2003 would not always unload from memory when it was closed while running JAWS.

Microsoft Project

Resolved a reported problem in Microsoft Project when attempting to open Properties or Information for different items.

Microsoft Word

Resolved an issue where text selected using CTRL+SHIFT+UP ARROW or CTRL+SHIFT+DOWN ARROW was not being announced.
Resolved an issue in Word 2007 where JAWS was not echoing the proper text when selecting by word.
Resolved a reported problem where, after turning on Navigation Quick Key mode, no indication about tables was given when using the Navigation Quick Key T.
Commands for reading next and previous columns, ALT+WINDOWS Key+RIGHT ARROW and ALT+WINDOWS Key+LEFT ARROW, work in non uniform tables.
Applying a style to a document no longer causes JAWS to see the document as a table.
Revision and bookmark information now appears in braille as the document is navigated.
When selecting text, braille now moves off the top line of the selection; it is now possible to accurately see what is selected when only using braille.
Line reading is available after pressing ESC, SPACEBAR, or ENTER, and then ESC from the Apply button of Style dialog box.
Resolved an issue in Word where JAWS was not recognizing tables or table reading commands.
When using WINDOWS Key+SEMICOLON to open and view a list of comments, end notes, footnotes, or revisions in a Word document, JAWS will now announce the number and type of items in the document. For example, if a document contains 16 comments, JAWS will announce this when the Virtual Viewer window opens.
The description for the Word Classic scheme, selected from the Speech and Sounds Manager in Configuration Manager, now clearly states that superscripts and subscripts are suppressed when reading a Word document.
JAWS now announces field data as you navigate a Word document by line.
Resolved an issue where there was a mismatch between the keyboard help message and functionality of some Navigation Quick Keys in Microsoft Word.
Many keystrokes, such as first-letter navigation and SPACEBAR are now available in JAWS and other dialog boxes when Navigation Quick Keys mode is turned on.
JAWS correctly reads items when navigating through the Header list.
In a Word document, you can press the Navigation Quick Keys H or SHIFT+H to jump to the next or previous heading. Now, after turning on Navigation Quick Keys, you can press 1 through 9 to jump to the next heading at that heading level. For example, 2 will move focus to the next level 2 heading in the Word document. SHIFT+2 will move focus to the previous level 2 heading.
If a document contains insertion and deletion markup, and you set the Tracking view to Final, JAWS no longer announces any of the Tracking changes in the document.
When the Show all Formatting Marks check box is selected in Word, JAWS announces all formatting marks including Paragraphs marks.

Mozilla Firefox

JAWS now correctly speaks screen text information on Web sites with buttons whose text value is different from screen text, such as travelocity.com.
Resolved a reported problem where Flash buttons, such as Play and Pause, were not appearing on youtube.com.
Resolved an issue where AutoForms mode turns on when you navigate into a disabled edit field.
When Auto Forms Mode is on and you navigate out of a multi-line edit field using the UP or DOWN ARROW keys, JAWS now moves focus to the next line after the edit field.
Resolved a reported problem where some radio buttons were not properly identified by JAWS 11 with Firefox 3.5.
Resolved an issue when trying to exit Forms Mode when running Firefox on a Windows XP computer.
Resolved an issue where Forms Mode would turn off when entering the message edit area of a Gmail message.

PAC Mate

Landmark keystrokes are now available for PAC Mate Remote.
The configured Voice settings for JAWS on the desktop now hold on the PAC Mate when a PAC Mate desktop session is launched.

Skype

Incorrect functionality observed while pressing SHIFT+TAB in the Options dialog box.
JAWS speaks and shows in braille the same information when navigating a Skype treeview list.
You can use braille panning to read longer controls or static text.
The Skype 4.0 upgrade message now recommends that you upgrade to Skype 4.1 or later.
JAWS correctly announces changes when increasing or decreasing slider values in Skype 3.8.
Updated screen-sensitive help messages for Skype 4.1 and later.

Windows 7

Improved speech and braille in Start menu of Windows 7.
Improved handling of Windows Explorer in Windows 7.
Windows Media Player 12 has the same level of support found in Windows Media Player 11.
Enhancements have been made to the INSERT+F11 keystroke for Task Tray operation.
Improved handling of common dialog boxes found in Windows 7 and Windows 7 applications. These dialog boxes include File, Save As, and Open, and various properties dialog boxes such as volume control, File and Folder Options, Taskbar, and Start Menu options.
Conflicts with previous Messenger Conversation keystrokes have been resolved as mentioned in the Messenger Conversation Keystrokes section of this page.

Windows Explorer

Resolved a reported issue where JAWS would not always speak when trying to select non-contiguous items by holding the CTRL key, and then pressing SPACEBAR on the different items in the list view.
Addressed an issue reported when selecting multiple pictures in Windows Explorer and then attempting to e-mail these items while JAWS is running on a Windows Vista computer.

Windows Live Mail

Graphics are now labeled so that message flags are properly announced in Windows Live Mail.

Windows Live Messenger 14

Resolved an issue with 64-Bit Windows Vista where outgoing and incoming messages were not spoken as expected.
When running Windows Live Messenger on a Windows XP computer, JAWS now announces the number of available contacts when you navigate through the list using the UP or DOWN ARROW.
Resolved a reported issue where JAWS was not recognizing incoming and outgoing Braille Flash Messages in Windows Live Messenger.
Resolved an issue where the previous message was announced instead of the current message when using the ALT+1 through ALT+ 0 keystrokes in Windows Live Messenger.
Typing a message sound is now heard during a conversation.
When using the UP and DOWN ARROW keys to move through your list of contacts, JAWS no longer says "not selected" after announcing contact information. This issue occurred only on Windows XP computers.
JAWS now announces the selected item as you navigate combo boxes in Windows Live Messenger 14.

Windows Presentation Foundation

Windows Presentation Foundation applications do not completely shut down when running with JAWS.
